A rep from local Apple reseller, Power Mac Center, sent a note informing me that the new batch MacBook Pros has just arrived. These are the ones that have the Thunderbolt technology (10Gbps port speed, formerly referred to as Intel Light Peak).

The units are available in all Power Mac Center outlets. However, when I asked about the retail prices of the units, they turn out to be more expensive than the SRP of the Apple Online Store.

Was actually hoping the local stores would sell the laptops at a much lower price than the SRP provided by Apple. Not sure if this is the trend with Power Mac but the last time I bought a Macbook Air at iStudio, it was cheaper than Apple’s official prices.

I believe nothing could beat this beast in term of performance. Design wise, it’s classical and no other pc laptop able to match with the unibody aluminum case. However, the worst part of the MacBook Pro is also the aluminum case. It is very prone to scratches cause by day to day usage especially using outdoor. I would suggest to get it cover up by skinstyler.com wrist rest products. They help to reduce the sharpness edge of aluminum case and also protect it from scratches. Depends on your needs. If you’re going after gaming performance for for vaio sb. . but if your’re after mobility, go for macbook pro. I’m a macbook pro user. Battery lasts 7.5-8 hrs on a single charge. :D

Macbooks are overpriced if you consider only the specs, but mix in its excellent build quality (I haven’t been able to use any laptop to date that is both sturdy and sexy as a Macbook) and the price starts to get more reasonable.

Go to Digital Hub if you’re gonna buy Macs cuz it’s cheaper there.

I like the 13″ knowing that, ito na pinakaportable ng apple + that has an optical drive compared to the 11″.

I believe thunderbolt is primarily to be used for display-out. Is it going to be compatible with HDMI? Or just outputs to Display port?

PMC’s premium is for their dedicated service centers, they can fix your gadgets locally instead of shipping it abroad to Apple Singapore. In theory that should lead to faster repair and turnaround time than other competing Apple resellers.

However in practice this doesn’t seem to work at all that way. Recently I tried replacing my iPod earphones. It took them *three* weeks to get back to me:
– one week to send from local PMC branch to San Juan service center
– one week to inspect the earphones in the service center (they say they have to do it again even though the local PMC branch inspected them, and that they have a loooong queue of repairs)
– one week to request replacement from Apple Singapore, then ship it back to San Juan service center and back to the local PMC branch

In comparison my mighty mouse from Accent Micro got back to me in less than two weeks, and at that time they’re not even an authorized Apple reseller. I can only imagine how long it’ll take PMC to repair a high-end Macbook Pro which requires additional parts from Apple Singapore.

Needless to say I don’t have a high outlook of PMC anymore, at least on the technical service part: their store and service center staff are friendly and accommodating, they just don’t have an efficient support system in place down there.

Power Mac Center’s prices are Apple’s SRP (or even higher, like the one posted above…), for all your Mac needs, try to go to iStudio or contact sir Charlie of Digital Hub…

based on my experience, you can get the best prices (straight/deferred/cash payments) on these 2 authorized Apple Retail Stores! =D

wow what the hell??? Intel hd graphics?? okay facepalm.. For techy people, this isn’t a good buy because of the lack of a graphics card but for others this already a good buy and a good way of showing off.. =)) Dadami ulit naka-mac dito sa la salle.. hahaha
