According to the report, the Philippines’ average internet connection speed for Q4 2014 saw a 0.2Mbps spike, a 8.6% quarter-on-quarter increase, and a 38% increase from the same period last year. The increase didn’t manage to move the country that much on Akamai’s Asia-Pacific countries list, as it still belongs to the three slowest along with Indonesia and India.

Similar the previous quarter’s report, South Korea still managed to stay on top despite a 12% decline from the previous quarter with an average of 22.2Mbps. Hong Kong and Japan are also included top three spots in the list of Asia-Pacific and global lists of countries with the fastest internet connections, averaging at 16.8Mbps, and 15.2Mbps, respectively.

The country’s average peak managed to increase as well, now at 21.8Mbps from 21.3 last quarter. Broadband adoption showed a slow progress, as Akamai reported only a ten percent increase from Q3 2014.

Internet users who are using broadband connections above 10Mbps and 15Mbps also decreased by 21% and 17% from the previous quarter, but are still higher when compared to the same time last year. Meanwhile, broadband users using connections above 4Mbps have increased by 11% from Q3 2014.

Overall, Akamai stated in its report that the global average internet speeds remains virtually unchanged at 4.5Mbps, with an average peak of 26.9Mbps.

2.7mbps only for the first 30minutes. After that ay data cap na. Speed down to 64 kbps or 256kbps, probably the lowest in the whlole world

Well – PLDT has monopolize the country. Hopefully nga Big G will water down this competition.

Mabilis nga pero mahal. I think the aim is to have speed=value for money

      Blame your ISP.
Kahit 20 Mbps pa yan kung naka throttle ka sa YouTube, buffer pa rin yan.

Still one of the slowest, we need more foreign competitors for Internet providers who can afford to install new Internet line not just ride with old pldt line.

It only measure speeds. Try finding a survey stating the average bandwidth cap given by country, that’s more accurate.

This isn’t really good news when it comes to PLDT’s schemes of increasing the bandwidth average with their ultera plan, if for some reason that we jumped from 2.7 to 5.0 it’s all because the people are idiots in buying that stupid plan, unless of course a third party ISP (hopefully Google) enters the market.
