Here’s another topic for concern among AdSense Publishers. It seems that page CTR has dramatically dropped for many blogs which directly affected daily income.

A couple of top-earning bloggers have mentioned this to me last month but I brushed it aside thinking that it could be some pre-holiday advertising jitter of some sort. Usually, the month of October and November are the lowest months of the year but it also depends on the niche of the blog.

The drop is directly affecting page CTR by as much as 40 – 60% from previous months. In effect that translates into about half the daily income. One blog on my roster has had a sudden dramatic drop in the CTR as well. I can’t share specific figures but the drop and the consistency of the reduced CTR almost eliminates a possible fluke.

Could this be a direct effect of the recent changes where AdSense has reduced the clickable areas in the ads? I guess so. Will this have a lasting effect. Hopefully not, but trends indicate otherwise.

Anybody else experiencing this?

My ctr is 0 from two month I linked analytics to adsense. They are linked now. What a horrible experience. Glad I am not the only one seeing this happen. My impressions and clicks are 0 earnings . Doesn’t make any sense

I discovered that my CTR dropped exactly in november/december 2007. It never got back up again in all these years. What about you? Do you have any explanation?

My ctr dropped 2 days ago about 80%, the same day I linked analytics to adsense. They are d-linked now. What a horrible experience. Glad I am not the only one seeing this happen. My impressions and clicks are up but earnings down. Doesn’t make any sense.

Same experience having a big drop on CTR this December. Experimented on many things like using manage ads, not using manage ads changed ads colors, etc. I’m not sure if the reduced clickable area is the culprit because when it was implemented my CTR is still normal. The worst lowering of CTR and eCPM happened during the third week of December until the now.

Also wondering why when my PR increased on my other site on the recent update, the traffic decreased and also the CTR.

There’s no change in my PR but my CTR dropped to 40%

My CTR, CPM and also revenue have dropped. However, my traffic also slightly lower compare to last few months. Maybe most of my visitors spend their time on their Christmas preparation rather than sit in front the computer and read my blog. :)

my CTR is slightly lower but the CPM dropped significantly, and to make the matter worse, the dollar is still on a freefall against peso.

Im still new in blogging but im using Adsense too. If Yuga is correct, I hope it will back to its normal CTR conversion soon.

no effects on my sites too, in fact my CTRs for November is actually higher than previous months.. and i thought most clicks from my sites are accidental ^_^

my earnings dropped 85% sept. and october was record breaking for me though..but i think its not because of the clickable areas but because of the Manage Ads feature..it messed up everything in my adsense code, and channels are not working. i suddenly got a lot of PSA’s.

Its now back slowly but surely to normal though..thank God!

Same thing happened to me right after my PR was slashed. Traffic went down considerably and so did the CTR. It became worse when the click-able areas shrunk.

I really wonder why Google has been acting up lately. Maybe they’re up to something big yet again. (Like world domination? :P)

I’ve seen small dips in CTR starting back in June, and every month since then. It’s not a huge dip, though, and doesn’t concern me too much.

Dunno about Bidvertiser. Their ads don’t appear that related to the content of the page. Chitika is okay, though.

Half the daily income? With the slumping dollar, is the income drop approaching 70%? Haynaq….

Agree with yuga, i’m also experiencing huge drop in my adsense CRT. This might be the effect of Adsense reducing the clickable area in the ads. Hope Adsense will do some moves or else…Hello bidvertiser…Hello Chitika.

Nope. CTR is relatively in the same level, no dramatic drops or increases.

I saw this happen in one of my experimental sites (a short story-collection site). CTR dropped by 50% leading to a 40% drop in Adsense income from last month.

As for my main blog at http://www.pinoymoneytalk.com, CTR and Adsense income dropped by 10% in early November after my site’s PR was reduced from 4 to 2 (then back to 3). Since then, however, CTR and income have stabilized.

I think the income reduction was caused by a lot of factors. First, the PR penalty caused some of my pages to be moved to later pages in Google’s SERPs thereby causing less visitors to the site. Second is the shrinking of the Adsense ad unit which you mentioned. And the third, I also agree that the 4th quarter is a slow quarter for advertising. I’ve seen that happen in my site for the past 2 years now.
