Yesterday, Apple reps flew in to show the media their new line-up of iPods. Of the lot, the iPod Nano 5G took the spotlight with a number of new features, including a 0.3 megapixel video camera.
With a bigger screen (2.2-inches vs. 2-inches) and much more features, the iPod Nano 5G will continue to be the most top-selling iPod in the line.
Odd thing though is that the VGA video camera can only record videos and cannot take still photos. Apple execs say it’s because people only liked/wanted taking and sharing videos, not photos. Included is a microphone and speakers too.
The FM radio tuner was also added, despite years of avoiding such feature, since Apple found a way to monetize it — one can tag a song played on the radio and later on be able to buy it thru iTunes.
The 8GB model costs Php8,790. On a side note, the iPod Shuffle has a Special Edition made of polished stainless steel instead of the usual anodized aluminum (priced at Php5,490).
still waiting for the Touch’s time.. Good work for the Nano though….
Just to try if they really sound better, I bought an ipod nano for myself last july. To my disappointment, it does not live up to the hype it gets from the media. The battery easily drains after 2 to 3 hours , there are times I want to throw it coz it doesnt serve its purpose to entertain while you’re on a long trip. As a music lover , it fails me, the nokia xpressmusic and sony walkmans sound perfectly and. Nagsisi ako bakit pa ako bumili niyan, kaya beware, from my expereince its a waste of money buying a trash like these ipods.
There could be a secret behind the camera… like the one in the new ipod touch… http://teknisyan.blogspot.com/2009/09/new-ipod-touch-secrets.html
By the way the new Ipod nano is available in 9 different colors and two variations; 8GB and 16GB.

Okay….it just seems a pretty weird decision from them.
Sir yuga, engadget have some videos testing the ipod nano. It seems the quality is fair for a 0.3 MP camera http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/ipod-nano-unboxed-camera-gets-tested-against-the-mean-streets-o/
too bad the camera doesn’t take photos.
apple is steering to the nokia-ish path? haha
@Karl Mac:
Haha! So right. Wheww! At the rate these gadgets are sprouting….
@eka – the complete line-up was posted earlier here.
They will release one that can shoot photo and will call it “new and improved.”
Sir Abe, did Apple introduce any other iPods aside from the 5G iPod Nano? I’m kinda hoping there’s a new iPod Touch so if ever there is one I’ll get that instead of the 2G iPod Touch. :) Thanks in advance.
Am I not hallucinating? It’s cheap? hmmm…
why is the special edition cheaper than the others?
coz its stainless?
@bertsan – it’s an iPod Shuffle that has the special stainless steel edition, not the iPod Nano.
Apple again trying to invent a new market.
The colors look nice. I do hope the price becomes a little lower this Christmas season. Feature wise, I wish they came up with these last year, the deal breaker when I bought my Creative Zen was the FM receiver. Aww…
another marketing strategy of apple..
No photo? really?
I want to know if Apple will ever release a better battery for ipod touch and iphone..
These agadget are good but useless for long travel since they will only last for 1 to 2 hours,
“Apple execs say it’s because people only liked/wanted taking and sharing videos, not photos.”
yeah right.
Please tell Apple that there are people who like to take still pictures. Hehehe!
