Apple announces 13-inch Macbook Pro Retina Display

In the recently concluded event, Apple unveiled their new Mac lineup which includes the new Mac Mini, iMac (21.5-inch and 27-inch) and a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

First up is the new 13-inch MacBook Pro which is 20% thinner (.75”) and a pound lighter (3.5lbs) than the previous model. It features a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution which is close to nearly 2x the resolution of 1080p displays. With that said, it’s the second most pixel-packed Mac behind the 15-inch Retina. The screen, which has 300-nit brightness, also has a higher contrast ratio, 29% to be exact, and has a 75% less glare over the its predecessor.

Configuration for the new 13” MacBook Pro can go up to 768GB SSD with 8GB of RAM. Consumers have the option to go for 3rd-gen Intel Core i5 model or go all-in with a 3rd-gen Core i7 processor. As for the battery life, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro is rated to go for 7 hours on a single charge.

The base model’s price starts at $1,699 (2.5GHz, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD) while the higher specced version will retail for $1,999 (not certain about the configuration though, but we’re assuming it’s going to pack an i7 processor).

Then we go next to Mac Mini. The latest iteration has a max configuration of 1TB HDD or 256GB Flash Memory and 16GB RAM and can have either an i5 or i7 3rd Generation Intel core processor. It has 4x USB 3.0 ports, SDXC Card reader and HDMI out. The model with a 2.5GHz 3rd Gen Core i5 processor with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD configuration will retail for $599 while the server version with i7 2.3GHz processor coupled with 4GB of RAM under the hood as well as a dual 1TB HDD will set you back a dollar shy of a grand. Oh and the Mac Mini will ship starting today.

Lastly, Apple announced the new iMac. It features an Edge-to-Edge display which is 5mm thinner than the previous model. To reduce the glare by 75%, the display is layered with a new anti-glare coating glass. In addition, the glass and the panel are laminated together with only a 2mm gap between the two components.

Speaking of display, the revamped 21.5” iMac will boast a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution while its bigger sibling has 2,560 x 1,440 resolution. It was also mentioned that the displays of the new iMac will be calibrated before it leaves the factory, so it’s good to go out of the box.

Both machine sports four USB 3.0 ports, three Thunderbolt ports, a 720p FaceTime camera, dual speakers and Mics. The new iMac is said to be 8lbs lighter than its predecessor. When discussing the storage options, the word Fusion Drive was mentioned in passing. Apparently, it’s Apple’s fancy way of calling Hybrid storage drives. With that said, consumers will have an option to pair their 1 or 3TB HDD with a 128GB Flash Memory to make the machine execute tasks faster. Maximum configuration of the new iMac can go up to 768GB Flash storage or 3TB HDD, 32GB RAM and can be outfitted with an NVidia Kepler graphics card.

The 21 and half inch model will ship starting next month and will be retailed starting at $1,299 with this configuration, 3rd Generation i5 processor @ 2.7GHz, 8GB RAM and a terabyte of hard drive space. Meanwhile, the 27-inch model with 2.9GHz i5 processor running under the hood paired with an 8GB of RAM and has a storage capacity of 1TB (HDD) has a $1,799 price tag and will start shipping by December.

There you have it, those are the three new additions to Apple’s Mac product line.

Sir yuga, you forgot to mention iPad 4, now having a faster processor & 2 x faster wi-fi than iPad 3.

On rMBP 13″:
128GB ssd space is a huge sacrifice for speed as compared to the non-retina version that starts at 512GB; and for that price they could’ve started their base model at 256GB ssd then I’ll take a second look. I waited for this to come out and I am underwhelmed with the specs and overwhelmed with the price.

Huh? What you just said is kind of confusing! The 13 in. rMBP is actually faster than the non-retina because of the ssd even if it’s just 128gb and the non-retina starts wtih 500 gb HARD DRIVE. 512 gb is a solid state configuration. Though, I agree with your last sentence.

…the 128gb ssd’s *speed*… huge sacrifice for *space* :) apologies for the mix up. I should proof read before I click!

I’ve always thought that the retina MBP is a joke, and now this iPad mini joins that category.

The new iMac in the other hand is sexay. But the lack of a disc drive is really disappointing as well as the non-upgradable internals of the base model. Apple doesn’t need to obsess on thinness for the iMac and sacrifice functionality. A lot thinner and lighter? Wow. My desk is really happy to know that.

Well there’s also an iPad 4.
