Apple has just introduced its newest member of the iPod line – a 16GB iPod Touch model with a 4-inch Retina display but no rear camera.

The new iPod Touch sports the same hardware and design as the 5th-gen iPod Touch, meaning it has the same 4-inch Retina display, A5 chip and HD camera. The only thing missing here is the 5 megapixel iSight camera so you’re limited to doing selfies. Dimensions are also the same except for the weight which is lighter at 86g.

At the same time Apple already removed the 4th-gen iPod Touch from its online listing to make way for this new offering.

The 16GB iPod Touch variant costs Php12,490 ~~$229~~ and is available in Black and Silver colors only.

I thought it was an Ipod Touch 6 new release but I was mistaken. It was a mid range version of Ipod Touch 5 to complement the 32 GB and 64 GB already in the market. The new version is facetime enabled but without the back camera. A different target market for this one.

The front facing camera can be used for facetime video calling. You don’t need a back camera for facetime because primarily, facetime was designed to work with a front camera, that’s why the iPhone 3G and 3Gs and iPods without front facing cameras were not compatible with facetime.

Never mind my request for confirmation on Apple announcement and my question about the rear camera. I already found the answers to my questions. So this is another joke on Apple on the Ipod 6. “Facetime without Video”.

True, but with Apple ios devices, facetime app. means video calling. This is why I think there was a mistake.
The joke on Apple is the lack of ‘NFC’ on its Iphone5. Another joke on Ipod Touch 6 ‘IF’ the back camera went missing.

Sir Yuga, Has Apple officially announced the release of the Ipod 6 or is it just rumor? If the Ipod 6 does not have a back camera, why does the picture of the Ipod 6 in your article shows the ‘facetime icon’?

mahal kasi ng ipod touch 5th gen eh. almost ipad mini na din pero siyempre pagdating sa portability ipod parin. pagdating sa nipis ng glass ipod touch 5th gen pinakamaganda talo pa yung iphone 5 parang walang salamin at pinipindot mo na mismo yung icons.

It’s not really advisable for anyone to buy this “new” iPod touch since the same variant with an iSight camera sells for 11k+ from local retailers. But it’s a pretty good alternative to the crappy 4th gen iPod touch, it’s about time Apple finally decided to phase that model out.

Sa mga katulad mong tao kung bakit nagiging mabili ang apple devices eh. Ginagawang status symbol. Napakimpractical kaya bilhin nyan. Almost same price lang sa orig na ipod 5th gen eh tapos wala pang camera. Kung quality hinahanap mo. Sa presyong 12k, marami ka ng makikitang branded phones lalo na sa grey market na mas sulit pa kesa dito.
