Apple has finally launched its 3rd-generation iOS tablet, dousing all speculations that have been going around the internet for months. Today, Apple announces the new 3rd-gen iPad.

It’s not called iPad HD, iPad 3, iPad 2 HD, iPad 2S but just “the new iPad“.

The 5MP camera on the iPad is now the same as what Apple used in the iPhone 4S.

As for battery life, it will still be up to 10 hours on 3G and 9 hours on 4G. It’s a bit heavier at 1.46lbs (iPad 2 was 1.33lbs) and also a bit thicker at 9.4mm compared to the iPad 2’s 8.8mm.

Looks the same. That means it loses its most important function – to let other people know that you dropped cash on the latest model. :P That alone will make a lot of people think twice before upgrading.

Looking at the upgraded specs and considering everything that goes with that…doesn’t that make 16, 32 and even 64gb of storage a bit too small now? They should be thinking about sticking 128gb minimum into these things. A typical 1080p movie is what…3-6gb? That eats up even 64gb disks pretty fast.

And then the games…with these babies sporting higher resolutions than most people’s displays, the games for these will probably go into the upwards of +1gb installs now or something along those lines. They need more space.

to garz di nagbabasa: LOL Lagi naman nilang ginagamit yun word na yun sa bawat product na nire-release nila. And I wasn’t even referring to the title on their home page but technically, it is still read as revolutionary + resolution.

Ay, napanood mo na ba yung keynote? Sinabi rin yun ni Tim Cook.

ipad naming is now going to way of the ipods, 3rd, 4th, 5th generation… i think only the iphones will use the numbering.

Too bad for people who want to show off their “New iPad” since it looks the same as the other one. Who will know the difference?

And bad news for Globe, because their HSPA+ will be useless for this one. Good news for Smart. But then how many people actually buy the ones with the antenna right?

    iPad 2:
    9.5 x 7.31 x 0.34 in

    new iPad:
    9.5 x 7.31 x 0.37 in

Same specs but will the extra .03mm thickness render all current cases, etc. obsolete?

And I agree with Dan the Beast, with the exception of Retina, you won’t be able to use many of the features.

  18. Avatar for Dan the Beast Dan the Beast says:

If you’re in the Philippines, you won’t get to use most of the new features. So better stick to the older model.
