Will WikiPilipinas redefine what is notable?

WikiPilipinasWhen WikiPilipinas officially launched last week, the proponents of the project explained how they envisioned to carry the idea of a free online encyclopedia and cook it into something that will have a Filipino flavor.

What those ingredients are to make it truly Filipino that we can call our own is something I can’t still fully imagine. But my questions which hasn’t yet been answered is –Will WikiPilipinas redefine what is notable?

One of the items in my long list of Mobile 2.0 capabilities is Ajax support especially because I’ve been using Netvibes more and more each day. My current Samsung SGH i600 cannot load the site properly just like many other mobile phones, despite using more advanced web browsers like Opera.

Sorry, no iPhone-like Nokia device

There were a lot of reactions from the crowd when Nokia showed their video presentation about the future of UI in the mobile phones. Before any of the new phones were introduced, the video showed a familiar picture of a full screen, touch screen Nokia phone.

See a copy of the video here:

What is ‘bacn’?

It’s a newly coined word, this bacn. Been reading a lot about it lately and first thought it was a new Web 2.0 service. Turns out it’s just another fancy word for an email spam that quite isn’t.

The Divalicious will resume next Monday

Now, this is really interesting. The Manila Standard Today announces that the infamous columnist Malu Fernandez is back in their roster or writers. This, after an earlier report that she submitted her resignation letter to two publications — MST and People Asia.

In a recent copy of the Manila Standard Today, a section displays a picture of Malu with the headline — Divalicious will resume next Monday. See picture after the jump.

Motorola USB Flash Drive Giveaway

I never realized express couriers could be so uptight about shipping some harmless USB flash drive. We had to return 3 times with three different packaging types to get the things approved for shipping. And they charge as much as the drive itself. Anyway, here’s the last USB drive I’ll be giving away. Ever.

All you gotta do is guess what’s the capacity.

Interesting late night Tuesday round up!

Unlock iPhoneThere’s a plot to release the iPhone unlocking software into the wild, wild web. A prize of $100,000 is in the offing. Several individuals and companies have actually solved the AT&T unlocking dilemma but threats of lawsuits prevent them to move forward.

Reports say that unlocking the iPhone invites DMCA complaints from AT&T and Apple. As usual, Apple will fiercely try to lock this down to protect their contract with AT&T. But what if they can’t?

It’s all about the money…

Globe rebrands and upgrades DSL speeds

Globe TelecomsA reader emailed today about the recent Globe rebranding and points me to their recent DSL package upgrades. Obviously, we’ve all noticed that every time the other ISP upgrades their offerings, the other responds with the same.

That’s healthy competition that benefits the consumers.

Levi’s Mobile Phone

Levi’s Mobile PhoneThe press release for this has been out since late June so this news is not new. I’m just way behind it. According to announcements, apparel manufacturer Levi’s Strauss is coming out with a branded mobile phone.

And the the name? Just Levi’s. The Levi’s mobile phone sits just beside that expensive and completely touch-screen Prada phone at the fashion-brand-comes-to-tech lounge. So what’s inside the hood?

Messing around with the Theme

After several weeks mulling over the CSS reboot of this blog, and after considering several of the earlier comments and suggestions, I’ve finally decided to roll out a minor tweak to the theme.

Some of the more obvious changes are the background (I wanted to be a little artsy this time), the logo and some font sizes and colors. Hope the improvements are appreciated by the reading public.
