I know this is kinda paranoid already but several people have contacted me about erratic to no internet connection. Yes, there’s that 12 midnight to 5am police curfew imposed on the entire Mega Manila, but the internet? There’s also the detention processing of media people who were present during the siege at the Manila Peninsula Hotel. I’d like to believe that this knee-jerk reaction is nothing to be worried about. Anybody else having problems with their net connection? Couldn’t it be just net traffic congestion?
The canceled National Broadband Network project with China’s ZTE is now being revived as the GBN or Government Broadband Network. NBN, GBN — same creature, just different skin.

Ok, all this issue about paid links, paid posts, PageRank penalties, SERPs demotion and the twisting of moral compass in advertising is giving me nose bleed. And yes, a lot of blog networks that have heavily relied on the TLA factor for their revenue model are in for a huge business dilemma. But what does that got to do with buying a PageRank 7 link from Google.com for $5 a day?

While it’s fairly easy for Google AdSense bot to identify pages for blacklisted words (Stop Words), it’s much harder to figure out if the contents are all made up of images or photos. This is particularly true for questionable content such as adult or mature materials.

Looks like Bayantel and Globe are getting some more competition on the wireless landline market. PLDT Landline Plus is the new wireless offering and prices are even more competitive the existing ones.
A new mobile phone launched last week with an interesting proposition — two SIMs running on the same phone at the same time. While this idea is not actually new in the Philippines, Verzio wants to penetrate a the aggressive mobile market in the country.

Christmas is just around the corner. This is the time of the year where everyone breaks the piggy bank, or hope that the Christmas bonus or 13th month comes early for that much-awaited shopping spree. Well, it’s the only time where most of us are even allowed to spend unreasonably.
I never realized talking 8 hour straight was so exhausting that after arriving home I hit the sack right away. My seminar on problogging was well received. Missed some stuff over the week-end so here’s a recap.

Google has finally put things into print (err, HTML). The recent PageRank slap for link selling is just the beginning. Now, they’re going to gun your blog down from the SERPs.

I thought this should have been launched months ago. Smart Broadband Inc. (Smart Bro), a subsidiary of Smart Communications announced the new 3G/HSDPA service in Subic (during the 20th Ad Congress?). Dubbed Plug It, this is basically Smart 3G with a dedicated USB dongle.
We Filipinos are the world’s most gullible consumers when it comes to commercial advertising. We shared the crown with Brazilians. No wonder print and broadcast advertising are still strong (billions!) in the country.

That’s how much would an open line (legit unlocked) iPhone would have cost if Apple did not enter into any 2-year contract with the telcos.
Probably next week, here in the Philippines. I guess. We’ve been invited to a Samsung event this Wednesday so I’m thinking they’ll show us the new Blackjack by then. Reports in the US on the unit being available with AT&T revealed new features.
Here’s one debate I’ve been trying to explain to several top notch bloggers for some time now. While the going trend in the blogosphere has been to go free and ride on the advertising wagon, some still believe that the subscription model is doable.
The hot item over at TechCrunch is all about comment trolling having some psychological explanation. Well, of course, every human action has some sort of psychological explanation except of course if one has a bout of epilepsy.

Online retail giant Amazon recently announced a new electronic handheld device called Kindle. Is it time to put down all the paperbacks and hardcovers for an e-Reader?
My latest review over at PTB is the funky looking Saitek iFreedom Wireless Speakers. A little expensive IMO but it’s wireless, portable and looks cool. More shots after the jump.

Over four years ago, when I was just starting my first serious venture (web hosting) into the online world, I said to friends maybe one day I’ll be featured in the Entrepreneur magazine. Well, I think I’m an article away from that today.
