8GB RAM upgrade costs Php59k on Apple Store

I was shopping around for a Macbook Pro on the Apple Store yesterday when I tried configuring some custom upgrades of an entry-level 13″ MacPro.

When I started bumping the DDR3 RAM from 2GB to 8GB, I could not believe what I saw. The upgrade is almost as expensive as a new MacPro — at Php59,300.

I guess DDR3 RAMs aren’t that cheap as I thought they would be.

I think it’s a typo. It’s purely illogical: a 4GB upgrade would cost you 5,390… double up an upgrade (to 8GB) would cost you 59,300? Maybe it’s just 9,300? =)

It’s insane! Does CD-R king have those kind of memories? hehe.. asa. Anyway, 59300 is really expensive for a doubled 4gb memory.

It’s the same for US pricing. 4 GB DDR3 modules are still new.

I remember seeing somewhere that the 4GB DDR3 modules installed on macbooks are actually cheaper than what’s available for retail.

It is DDR3 so that is nothing new..

Just buy it online like what most Mac users do.. there are some sites that offer mac parts like memories much cheaper than what Apple officially sells..

because the RAM has a laser-etched Apple logo, which is a premium pay?

don’t get me wrong, i so LUV Apple, and the price points of their units(MB, MBP, MBA, Apple TV) are justifiable but for a RAM at that price? that, i think, is a bit pricey.

reminds me that RAMs way back 1980 cost a real estate.

sorry, there weren’t any RAMs yet in 1980. i should have used the word “memory.”

i also believe its a typo error. grabe ang mahal pala ng upgrade kahit yung sa 4 gig.

Hmmm I’m thinking this is just typo.. I guess Apple should hire a proof-reader LOL

The DDR3 1066mhz really cost that much if not more. Its not simply doubling the price of 4gb ram since a 4gb stick of this kind (even DDR2) for that matter costs a lot. To be honest, this is one of the more fair ram upgrades from Apple when it can actually cost cheaper than buying elsewhere. Try it on amazon RAM with same specs go for 800 usd depending on stock available.

      I don’t think it’s a typo. The US Apple Store sells the 8GB (2×4GB) upgrade for $1,100.

A single stick of 8GB DDR3 RAM costs about $499 on 3rd party online stores.

its better to just buy the main unit and just have the upgrade somewhere else coz upgrade on apple website to to pricely and beside upgrading the ram and hardrive will not void the factory warranty

yikes, who in their right mind will buy that upgrade? wait for DD3 to go mainstream muna siguro.

Memory fabs cost Billions, so early adopters pay for them.

      Thats pretty expensive.

4gb is enough if its DDR3.

You Noobs! Everyone knows you don’t buy RAM from Apple Store. All Mac user knows that its overpriced. Old news.

Apple also makes it easy for even novice users to upgrade notebook RAM. Its included in every user manual.
