Jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPad & iOS4 released

Updated: Get the latest Jailbreak for iOS 4.3.3 here.

This is it — JailbreakMe 2.0 Star is the newly released jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G on iOS 4 / 4.0.1, iPod touch on iOS 4, and iPad on iOS 3.2.1.

The best thing here is that it’s very easy to jailbreak your device — just point your Safari browser to www.jailbreakme.com (using your device).

Complete list of supported devices include:

iPod 1G on 3.1.2
iPod 1G on 3.1.3
iPod 2G on 3.1.2
iPod 2G on 3.1.3
iPod 2G on 4.0
iPod 3G on 3.1.2
iPod 3G on 3.1.3
iPod 3G on 4.0
iPad on 3.2
iPad on 3.2.1
iPhone 3G on 3.1.2
iPhone 3G on 3.1.3
iPhone 3G on 4.0
iPhone 3G on 4.0.1
iPhone 3G[S] on 3.1.2
iPhone 3G[S] on 3.1.3
iPhone 3G[S] on 4.0
iPhone 3G[S] on 4.0.1
iPhone 4 on 4.0
iPhone 4 on 4.0.1

Already tried it on my iPod Touch running on iOS4 and it seems the jailbreak has also solved the problem with the fast-draining battery. Will be doing the same with my iPad later.

I heard it still doesn’t work for iPads? And… I’m not sure if it’s fixed already, but there was a reported bug on iPhone 4‘s FaceTime and MMS being disabled after the JailBreak.

Yeah, I was notified by this early in the morning, around 5-6am. The site was down due to the huge number of people jailbreaking their iDevices, now that jailbreaking is considered legal in the US.

It seems to be that there are a few minor bugs though. I’d be holding back until all seems well for me.

    I have a jailbroken iPhone 3G running on 3.1.2.

Do I just go to http://www.jailbreakme.com and the site will upgrade it to a jailbroken iOS 4.0.1 ? or do I update my iPhone 3G first to iOS 4.0.1 via iTunes then jailbreak it via http://www.jailbreakme.com ?

what are the advantages of jailbreaking? disadvantages?

I’m currently on iOS 4.0.1 on my 32gb iPhone 3gs…

Advantages: Makes your iDevice open source, or maybe not. What I mean is that you are allowed to install “not-so-legal” applications (games and apps that comes with a price, themes, homebrew extensions, etc.) for free. You are also able to explore your iDevice (I’m not sure with the iPad) the same way you explore a normal storage device.

Disadvantages: although not really, it voids your warranty. Kung pumunta ka sa Apple Store para magpa-repair ng something sa iPod mo, tapos nakita nilang naka jailbreak, they blacklist your device’s serial number on their database. Pero madali lang naman i-restore yung pagkakajailbreak, just plug your device to your pc, tapos go to recovery mode.

Isa pang disadvantage, nakakaubos ng memory lalo pag nahilig ka magdownload ng games. :)

I guess now that jailbreaking your iphone (other smartphone) has been ruled as legal, people will now try (take risk) this option and jail break their iphones. :)

and people who make such software won’t have to worry from being penalize. yeah..
