Free International calls on your 3G Phones

Listen to article

Anton Sheker sent me a link to his blog post about making free calls around the world using your 3G phone and VOIP. I know it’s possible if you can run Skype on your mobile phone but I haven’t heard heard nor seen anything else.

Check out his blog for the instructions on how to use it on your 3G phone. I’m not sure if it will work on my Samsung SGH i600 but will update this post after I test it.

Now, this could help make the use of 3G in the country more popular esp. among OFWs and their relatives. See my related post on PTB about the LG KU250.

nice methods and we are looking to trade techniques with others, please shoot me an email if interested.

I find netzero to be expensive. Skype as VOIP is good. If all of you remember, how everyone had problems with skype, so we do need a good backup.

I wonder why so many seem to think you need braodband-like speed for VOIP and free, or very low rate calls. I use NetZero which works fine over dailup and gives me a US phone number … inbound calls are always free. For years before I moved to the Philippines we talked to the family, computer to computer on Yahoo messenger over dial-up … Yahoo has a cheap computer to phone plan similar to NetZero’s.

A plan by the telcos to convince people they need a broadband service for a narrowband application?

So that someone will do something with that expensive service that connects to about .0001% of the people in the Philippines?

Interesting. Hip2b2 has it exactly right, a gimmick to transfer money from one corporate pocket to another. The pipe to the US is still running at a 40% dropped packet rate like it did all weekend, but becuase it’s a new service, those customers will never notice the errors. “If only” (God, I hate that phrase) they would get the basics right before adding on the bells and whistles.
