Dreamhost on the Top Technorati Searches

Listen to article

Connie woke me up this morning with a text saying her blog wasn’t loading properly. I quickly checked and it was fine from my end. She was still upset though as half of her blogs are still down.

Apparently, the ones hosted at Dreamhost have had no luck in the past 3 days. So I checked Technorati to see how far and wide the problem was. It was practically on the front page of Technorati:

Dreamhost

That’s #6, just below Zidane and Bush. Now we realize how much of the blogosphere relies on Dreamhost for their hosting needs.

For some reason, I have this tingling in my gut and I pray hope this doesn’t happen to us.

I got the recent DH downtimes as well but reported them as soon as I detected it; my sites were fine after a few hours. They’re quite mainstream now so they’re getting their more than fair share of problems and crticisms.

yuga, cause most of dreamhost’s clients are bloggers. if you read through the technorati links, a lot are abandoning dreamhost because of what happened. there’s even one who just signed on and on his first day as dreamhost client, it happened……

Re #5. I agree. the admin panel sucks. i always lose my way around. and the newsletters…..!@%$%&^%%#

What a nightmare. I experienced the same thing. This was the worst of all Dreamhost downtimes. I think they should stop overselling their damn webhosting accounts to halt the strain it’s doing to their servers. :(

Dreamhost just had a string of bad luck. It’s a webhosting nightmare.

Would these downtimes merit having your own server , as a backup? what about mirroring? How would one go about the economics, not to mention the technical issues..

out of topic (maybe this should be in the Lonbying for Paypal entry): Abe has paypal? How? And while we’re at it, what are the “easiest” ways for a Pinoy to get one, given the existing conditions.

Yeah, downtimes do happen. We’ve had countless of them around here.

What I was more amazed was how much it got coverage in the blogosphere (via Technorati).

Hi Abe,

Weather-weather lang… That’s why it helps to spread your sites around.

I have a few at DH. Tough luck. Fortunately, things are starting to get back to normal.

My non-DH sites also had their downtimes in the past. I guess that’s how things are in the webhosting world.
