Alex Tew’s Million Dollar Homepage is one of those one-hit wonders. Since then, hundreds of other copycats went wild hoping to get another bite at 1 million bucks. But alas, there will only be one unique and crazy idea people will be fooled into fishing out their credits cards.
Since my blog is on the second page (of G) for the keyword, I get dozens of emails left and right from so-called “originators of yet another million dollar idea” (or whatever currency they’re fond of) asking me to blog about them. Yup, including the Philippine Peso.
So far, none came even came close to second best but this one is a contender IMHO — One Million Blogs.
Almost similar mechanics of advertising — a 30×30 pixel square button costs $1 to advertise. However, once the million sale has been reached, all participating blogs will be raffled off to receive payments in between $100 to $100,000 in the form of blog advertising.
500 blogs get $100, 50 blogs get $1,000, 20 blogs get $2,000, 5 blogs get $5,000, 3 blogs get $10,000, 2 blogs get $50,000 and one blog will get $100,000.
The ads that will be placed on those blogs will be other blogs who participated as well. The idea is much like a lotto for bloggers, thus you’re basically buying an ad in the hopes that you either get a piece of the sum in cash or in traffic.
However, when I added the “budget” for blog advertising, the total was just $395,000. I originally thought he’d be giving back all one million dollars. I guess the owner of the site gets the rest. What if he didn’t sell all 1 million and only sold $300,000 — will he take out his credit card as well? I’d like to see this question answered in his blog.

I have a “million dollar” site but I use the technology as a directory and advertising banners. Check out my site at http://www.discoverpodcasts.com.
