Darren’s post on “Why reveal your Blog Income?” is getting some nice exchange of ideas. My take on this is two-folds but I believe not all bloggers would want to divulge how much they earn from their blog thru AdSense.
We talked about it during our last PTB Meet-up and here’s a brief summary on my take about it:
- Those who reveal their blog income are the ones who have been doing it for quite some time (about a year or so). This means their efforts have paid and they want to share their sucess to the public.
- Others do not want to share how much they earn for fear that enterprising ones will follow their lead and take a piece of their potential earnings. These are niche blogs that can easily be re-created (recipes, mobile phones, gadgets, news, lyrics, downloads, etc.)
- Revealing one’s revenue from AdSense can subject your site to undue criticisms especially if you employ borderline tricks of the trade. That’s why some keep mum about it.
- Most of those who reveal their income and preach about the power of blogging and the business potential it brings take on a heavier weight in terms of credibility. If you preach about it and you have the AdSense cheque to back it up, then you must be an authority.
- Others, though earning quite a bit, are not really proud of their blog “project” as it may not contain original ideas/content and can be easily duplicated. Thus, any Tom, Dick or Harry can do it and get the same likelihood of success. (see post #2)
- Talks about money never fails to catch the interest of readers and spark discussion. You might even convert those casual readers to regular ones too.
