During the SONA earlier this week, Pres. Arroyo proudly announces that she was able to convince the cellular companies to drop the rate of inter-network SMS down by half — from Php1.00 to Php0.50. What she failed to mention was that this an an orchestrated gimmick.
Globe Telecom is the top Yahoo! oneSearch partner in Southeast Asia, based on number of unique page views per day using the mobile search engine.

We’ve got over a hundred submissions from our recent poll on mobile 3G services. The results are not that surprising but the breakdown of services is a bit interesting though. See figures and graphs after the jump.
As a country that leads in worldwide internet speeds, it’s a surprise that a Japanese Internet Service Provider will put bandwidth limits on its subscribers. Only shows that despite the very fast and cheap DSL connectivity, consumers will still abuse the service.
In a press launch this afternoon, Globe Telecom announced the opening of a new division aptly named Globe Labs. The new department will embark in innovative projects including the recently concluded 3G Multimedia Challenge.
People have been asking that since Globe Visibility has obviously moved into the flat prepaid and tiered postpaid models, what will happen to subscribers who are on the GV Unlimited plans?

This was just texted to me by a contact from Globe — that their Visibility plans are now available in prepaid — a move that directly competes with SmartBro Prepaid. This is on top of their postpaid GV 799 and GV 999 plans I reported earlier.

Got an email tipping us of the possible Globe Telecom Post-Paid Plans for the new iPhone 3G coming this September in the Philippines. These postpaid plans are not final and may change but more or less close to what you’ll expect when it comes out.

With the purchase of PLDT/Smart of CURE, the company now has a wider band for its 3G network. With the largest spectrum of 15MHz, Smart already uses the 1920-1935MHz and the 2010-2025MHz band. The additional frequencies from CURE would practically double its capacity and pave the way for higher 3G speeds.
While searching for the same umobile connection problems online, I bumped into this interesting discovery — the uMobile Wireless Broadband Package. Wow, I didn’t know umobile was already offering something similar to SmartBro Plugit!
Anybody else on umobile having connection problems with Globe? Got my umobile SIM a couple days ago but never bothered using it until last night after finding out the’ve got some nice numbers — mine’s 0999-3000-xyy.

Bumped into someone from Globe this evening and she quickly tipped me about their new Globe Visibility plans – Plan 799, Plan 999, and Plan 1499. Still postpaid but they’ve made it more affordable, obviously following the move by the competition.

ümobile (CURE U Mobile) seems to be getting a ton of attention because of their game-changing strategy. We already know what’s in store for mobile subscribers but what’s in store for advertisers?
Last Monday, CURE’s new U Mobile service was officially launched. About 350 units of phones were given away to pre-approved U Mobile subscribers. Part of the monthly credits will be free and supported by ads. Anything beyond the Php100, you have to pay for yourself.

An email just this afternoon pointed me to the press release that Globe Telecom has agreed with Apple to exclusively offer the iPhone in the Philippines. Announcement was made at 1PM this afternoon.
Another telco is coming to town. Connectivity Unlimited Resource Enterprise, Inc. (CURE) will officially launch it’s 3G mobile service in the Philippines this month.
Globe 3G may be facing some serious issues this month due to frequent disconnection charges on their 5 Peso per 15 minute rates. Last month, Globe introduced time-based charging on top of the previous kilobyte rates — a pleasant development to loyal Globe subscribers. Problem though is the arbitrary disconnection/reconnection charges.
