Google promotes Pinoy porn?

Listen to article

Just saw one of the ads from Google AdSense promoting Filipino porn? Was a bit shocked that Google would allow advertising about pornography thru AdWords.

I took a screenshot of the ad link units here.

The ads will show if you go to one specific post I made here about Say Alonzo on Pinoy Big Brother. Just keep on refreshing the page and maybe you might see it as well.

However, when you click on the link, you will get this message “Sorry! We couldn’t find any ads related to your topic. Please enter another topic below.” At least, there aren’t any real ads about pron there. But why make a link directory for “Filipino porn”?

I’m not sure if Google did allow this or it got past their filtering or QA system.

Update: Turns out that the ad link units take the common theme and use these keywords as topics in the ads. So, it’s possible to have ad link units with no ads in them when you follow the link.

Adsense now considers this page as Pinoy Porn – see the public service announcement!

I got this reply from Gilad of SearchEngineHerald:

As far as Google Adwords, Adsense, and Porn, Google does allow porn Adwords to be placed, that is, if you have a porn site and would like to promote it, you can set an Adwords campaign and buy any keywords you would like to (as long as the site promoted does not show / promote anything illegal). You cannot, however, use Adsense on porn sites. Therefore I do believe that this may have been a mistake.

See, when you place an adword ad, it goes live immediately, within the next several hours it is supposed to be reviewed by a quality control person, which I believe labels it as porn. It also has an algorithem that will in the meantime keep it from showing up under Adsense. Aparently this algorithm failed…

Either way, you, as a publisher can file a complaint if you find the ads on your site irrelevant or offensive by clicking the “Ads by Google” line and marking the appropriate items.

Re: content policy for adwords.

I also see it in other places, I just thought it was normal. Anyway, should it be reported?

I have seen that before. When I click through the link unit, I did not get porn ads.

Their Content Policy says:

Sexual Content (Adult) – Advertising is not permitted for the promotion of child pornography or other non-consensual material.

Hmm, in general, does google allow porn links or is it explicitly said in the Terms of Use/License that they will not display or accept ads related to mature content?
