Fastest Browser Benchmarks

For the longest time now, since I totally switched to Firefox and found really amazing extensions, I never looked back to IE. And, even though the upcoming IE7 promises almost the same features (tabbed browsing, esp.) as that of the Fiery Fox, I don’t see myself using the dreaded browser any more (well, except if the site was made purely for IE, esp. the online banking sites).

However, I’ve caught myself several times looking at the Flock icon more often. Yes, Flock is just a stripped down Firefox with a lot of bugs and often crashes but I feel it is still way faster. Maybe because it was due to the number of extensions I run with FF.

Last night, I saw this YouTube video about Browser Benchmarks and was surprised with their results:

IE6 Benchmark

Firefox 1.5.0.7 Benchmark

Mozilla 1.7.13 Benchmark

Opera 9.02 Benchmark

Maxthon 1.5.7 Benchmark

(note: ms is milliseconds)

If you want to run an independent test, go and download the Benchmark package here.

Yes there will probably be a huge “hue and cry” from those who turn browsers into religions. I do use FireFox most of the time but that is mainly because of some AdSense-related extensions. I still use both IE 6.0 and 7.0 frequently because ‘A’ many of my visitors use them (and in the business world customers aren’t always allowed to switch and B”S” FireFox is a pig .. the Mozilla engine is like code written in VB compared with well-written C or assembler.

Maxon is certainly a sleeper, it does tabs better than FF and has many other great features and “looks” enough like MSIE to fool most web servers who try to block non-IE customers. But as long as Google pays people to push out FireFox I suspect it’s market share will continue to grow.

Same here Dave, I use FF and IE6 and IE7. FF is always my choice when I surf the web. There are quite a few alternative browsers. Avant is good and behaves like IE because it use an IE engine.

Good post, nice to know other browser.

The results confirm that my browser of choice, Opera, is indeed the fastest. Although you have to live with some sites not fully supporting Opera — for these sites, you have to use the other browsers — for your usual surfing activities, Opera is a cut above the rest when it comes to speed.

Tol, singit lang ha. =) I love FireFox! kahit na parang cia ung pinakamabagal sa benchmarking, i still love it, esp. because of its extensions. You can find it sa extensions.mozilla.com, isearch mo n lng dun. =)

Currently i use Opera v9.10 and Firefox v2.0.0.3. For the speed, security and stability i love Opera a lot.
For Yahoo Mail i still use FF, because yahoo button not compatible with Opera.
I still believe in Opera as the fastest browser since 2000 i’ve been used for the first time. That makes Love at the first try :)

Nice benchmarking results. Can you please update the benchmark package link ? Currently, it seems to be broken.
