Yahoo! and Skype App on the iPhone

Two top-notch apps are now available on the iPhone App Store — the Yahoo! App and the Skype App are ready for download to your iPhone for free.

Yahoo! seems to have ditched the Yahoo! Go brand and went with Yahoo! Mobile with their new app for the iPhone. Everything is there — from YM, to Twitter to email, including support 3rd party email providers like GMail and AOL.

On the other hand, the Skype App is something a lot of iPhone owners have been waiting for but was only made available now. It’s unsure whether the delay was due to Skype or Apple (similar services like Fring and Truphone were already available for the iPhone since last year).

The apps are free to download on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

I downloaded both apps and I would to say both are great to have on your iPhone. I love the “social” aspect of the Yahoo app.

I don’t understand Skype. Why doesn’t Skype create an application for Symbian? Yeah, I like Fring but Skype should also make their own application for Symbian users. Now Skype is also creating one for Blackberry! Hate the Skype Lite version.

I just checked the iPhone site on Yahoo. Looks like the app doesn’t support Yahoo IM? Is that correct?

It’s so funny how iphone’s got great apps and great user interface and when you’re using them, the battery life will only last for a few hours. If I’m forced to sit down beside some electrical outlet to be ‘productive’, I might as well use my trusty laptop instead.

If you like Yahoo and Skype on the iPhone/iPod Touch? Then also take the time to check out “Nimbuzz” as well. This little FREE app rolls all of your accounts into one easy application. I have my Yahoo, MSN, Facebook, Skype etc… all working at the same time. So I do not need to log in and out of different apps to check on friends/updates/messages. I also like the talking feature, for when that person supports a voice chat. So wander over to the App Store and check it out for yourself. Just my 2 cents… Cheers.

YUP!!! great for iPhone users in the Philippines, specially if your carrier is smart cause internet only causes P10/30mins.

Please tell me what IM program is best for US-Philippines voice chat. Skype, Yahoo or Windows Live? Is the sound quality good or is it choppy? Does it work well even if the person in the Philippines uses dialup only? How fast does my cable connection have to be?
