How to Unlock your iPhone 3G

Listen to article

The biggest news for 2009 so far is the YellowSn0w unlocking application for the iPhone 3G. You can now insert any SIM card into your iPhone 3G — good news for consumers, bad news for telcos.

The “yellowsn0w” application works with the latest iPhone 3G modem firmware (02.28.00) so if your iPhone is not yet on 2.2, just hook it up on iTunes and upgrade it before unlocking.

You will also need to jailbreak your phone first (by downloading and installing QuickPwn). Once that’s done, you can now follow the unlocking procedures here.

I have yet to do this on my iPhone 3G so I’ll update this post after I make a successful attempt (initial reports from other unlockers revealed that close to half of the attempts weren’t any good).

Now the challenge is using the any 4G Sim in the iPhone because it does not support all the sims so that you have to unlock it so that all the application can be run by using 4G.

I have an iPhone 3gs which is still locked to at&t even if the contract already expired. I am a beginner who tried to unlock the phone using jailbreak but to my disappointed I was not able to unlock the iphone since I need to be connected to wi-fi to connect to cydia and to ultrasnow and other repo links to unlock my phone… i just want to know if there is an authorized outlet in the philippines where I can unlock my iphone for a charge? thanks for the help!

SO, for those in the US, here’s a link to the AT&T config hack for Internet Data Tethering. All you do is do click on that link and download it in Safari… after it installs, you go to your Network settings and you’ll see an option for Tethering, I’ve been able to set it up for both bluetooth and the standard USB tether – its awesome, now have connection for laptop wherever I go!
It may require a reset. Keep in mind AT&T is not allowing this yet, so use at your discretion, also word is that when AT&T does allow this, it’s going to end up being an additional $30+/month, which on top of the $90+ monthly is ridiculous…

Hey Yuga (or Abe),

I was hoping you could advise me. I am presently in the states, would very much like to finally purchase and use an apple phone but can no afford the whole globe fiasco! Is it possble for me to buy the phone here from apple 3G now at $99 and 3GS $199 and have it unlocked when I get to Manila, where I live. When it is unlocked what does this mean, can you get on to any plan?

I would be most grateful for your advise, I leave soon to return to Manila and am at a lose at what to do?

Thank you for amy assistance and advise you can offer me!

Ciao, Kim
