Research in Motion today unveiled a new and affordable version of their Blackberry Curve series. Though RIM execs could not give an estimated price (as the telcos will be the one making the final price), they say that the Blackberry Curve 8520 is their most affordable one ever.
The Curve 8520 resembles the look and feel of a smaller Nokia E63.
Specs include:
2.64 inches display screen @ 320×240 pixels
256MB Flash memory
up to 32GB on microSD
512MHz CPU
Full QWERTY
Bluetooth 2.0
GPRS/EDGE
2MP camera with video recording
Wi-Fi 802.11b/g
Li-Ion 1150 mAh battery
The Curve 8520 is also looking to be a multimedia phone as it has a dedicated media keys on top, a 3.5mm stereo headset jack and can sync with iTunes or Windows Media Player via Blackberry Media Sync.
Pictured above is the Blackberry Curve 8520 beside a Nokia E71 — the Curve is shorter but thicker than the E71. And while the keys are smaller on the Curve, they are raised higher and more spaced apart.
The handset should be available thru Globe and Smart soon.

For some strange reason, I find the Blackberry phones more appealing than the Nokia E-series.
Hopefully, I’d be able to save enough money to get a Blackberry phone this Christmas. Unless SonyEricsson comes up with better phones.

a younger sibling of the Blackberry Curve 8900? just like the Nokia E63 being the younger sibling of the Nokia E71.
i’m a noob when it comes to how these blackberry phones compare to ‘regular’ phones.
i have a Nokia e63 (very close to Nokia e71), i was just wondering of the possible reasons one would switch to a blackberry phone. can someone come up with a few good reasons for the benefit of someone like me?
i’ve tried the push email software from nokia and seven networks, i think they do the job just fine. if they do it fine, why switch? just a matter of preference?

The Nokia doesn’t even compare to this phone because there is a lot you can do with Blackberry that you can’t with Nokia.

This is an entry level BB — NO 3G, no GPS and 320×240 display. Pinoys would buy this based on the subsidy given by the Telcos and not because of its specs.
Globe has a personal BB plan I don’t know about the other Telco.

u can do so much more with symbian phones, just install third party softwares and you’ll be amazed by its capabilities.
i’m still eyeing for the BB Bold. hahaha. though this phone made me reconsider.
by the way, it was not meant to compare Blackberry vs Nokia. it was just meant to scale ratio within each product groupings, with this unit almost the same as Blackberry Curve 8900. same with Nokia E63 to be almost the same with E71.

ow i have the bb pearl,, and i bet its the greatest phone i’ve ever had… so i’m planning to save some money to buy the 8900 curve.. i love bb phones… just love it,, especially the sms its the best.. and o btw haha, ima buy it on att coz its mah carrier.. LOL its too expensive if u’ll planning to buy it on the Phil.. wah and i bet u cannot find this phone easy, coz its not really a “pinoy” phone,, maybe they’ll prefer nokia, than this one..! LMAO
