When Globe Telecom came out and announced the pricing plans for the iPhone 3G, a lot of people cried foul and declared it too expensive. Some even claims Globe is exploiting the iPhone 3G popularity for charging exorbitant fees on the exclusive iPhone. So I did some digging on Globe’s existing price plans and found out that the Nokia E90 is even more expensive!
Can’t believe it myself but take a look at the chart below:
The iPhone 3GB 8GB is cheaper than the top business phone of Nokia (E90). You get the iPhone 3G 8GB for free on GPlan 5000 but you have to pay additional Php9,100 for the Nokia E90.
In a way, if you line up the iPhone 3G and the Nokia E90 feature by feature and compare that to the prices offered by Globe (whether prepaid or postpaid), would-be buyers will get a better deal with the iPhone 3G.
Note: The Globe prepaid kit for the Nokia E90 isn’t exact. The price indicated is the SRP when the E90 was released last July. But based on the pricing plans for GFlex/GPlans, the E90 is somewhere in between the 8GB and 16GB models of the iPhone 3G.

While you do have a point there, it’s just that iPhone 3G was hyped as a “cheap” phone so everyone can own one. But with these prices, only 1 percent of the population can afford that!
I agree with Rico on his comment above.
The problem here is that Steve Jobs went out at the last Macworld Expo and made the $199 price tag on the iPhone a major selling point for the new iPhone 3G.
Heck, I even stood up from my chair and cheered for the man when he announced it.
What many people didn’t realize, and this includes me, is that the announced price tag is heavily subsidized by the carrier (AT&T).
This means that the reason why you can get an iPhone that cheap in the US is because you’re locked in with AT&T for two years on a post paid plan.

Yeah, that’s true. Smart could’ve done a better job with the iphone. Globe’s prices for their phones are just not worth it as compared with Smart’s. Well, probably I’m just biased since I’m a smart subscriber for more than 5 years now and I don’t have any major complaint for their service. haha
Let’s wait a little, or go for the open-line ones to spring out…
i think an ipod and a phone in one device is enough reason for it to be a good product, plus of course other tons of features…
but then again, the price is not just high its just too much…

No matter what the figures say, these phones and plans are still too expensive.
Perhaps Globe should throw in some great SMS deals like unlimited SMS that lasts for a month or something. Include more free 3G time and then you probably have a deal. But it’s still a long shot.

Apple should have chosen SMART instead of Globe. Ive already saved for the $199 promise of apple, i should thought earlier that its in a plan based price. Darn marketing tricks. Lol
I was horribly overwhelmed with the price of Globe. Here in the USA, it cost $199 (8 GB) and $299 (16 GB). Globe should explain the pricing before they sale it. Grrr.
I guess they base it on the demand of the people base on its features …
For me I don’t like apple products, its features are not as good as some of its competitors, but it is expensive.
I am in favor of Nokia products than that of apple or blackberry … MY MACBOOK was broken just 6 months on my hands … while my other things could survive for at least a year with me
I guess most Filipino’s prefer Nokia that is why Globe sold it for a higher price …
They are business minded people, so I guess they wouldn’t sell it cheaper than what they have paid for it. In tagalog’s term di nila bebenta yan pag alam nilang lugi sila …
