we do still use CRT Monitors in our comp shop it cost us 10x to buy a new LCD monitors so we prefer to 17″ CRT 2nd for only 600php.

i read your comments guys…i feel all of you have your reasons…i still am using crt’s..well aside from costly replacement of my monitors, i believe color is a factor….one thing you guys didn’t mention is the repairs of lcd. had one flat Lg 2 yrs ago and it bagged down after the warranty period…
know what happened???it’s part of my tambakables hehe…..no shop here can repair it….unlike crt’s..u cud spend around 500-800 php and it cud be as good as new…:-)

I’m still using my 17 inch AOC CRT monitor. I’ve been using this for 7 years alrady with an average usage of 4-6 hours a day. Still working good. Been thinking of shifting to LCDs but the color reproduction and viewing angle is bettern in CRTs than LCDs. Black is truly back in Crts!

I do desktop publishing work, and I prefer CRTs for this line of work, but eventually in a decade I’ll be hard-pressed to find a CRT that matches what I use right now, so the thing is… I guess that only some top-end manufacturers have LCDs built for desktop publishing.

Yup, I still use CRT for graphic design work, especially since I also run a publication. With CRT, the colors are just more accurate.

Naka-dual monitor ako – 22″ LG LCD and 17″ AOC CRT. Plano ko dati yung LCD na lang gamitin nang napansin ko na iba kulay. Mas matched yung kulay ng CRT sa actual print out ng photo.

My primary concern regarding monitors are for health reasons. Yung radiation nung CRT talagang harmful sa atin at yung mata natin baka masira. Kahit medyo mahal pinilit kong utangin. Tipid ka pa sa kuryente. Grabe laki talaga matitipid mo sa kuryente at hindi pa mainit yung work place mo. Bukod sa radiation, yung heat na nang gagaling sa likod ng monitor parang pakiramdan ko nag-luluto ako ng pandesal sa oven.

other than the issue concerning “color fidelity”, do you have ano other reasons why you stick to CRT?

i don’t do lots of graphic works so i don’t use it anymore. i have an LCD but that is primarily only due to space conservation issue.

I still prefer CRT monitors over LCD when I do graphic design work, especially the printed kind. LCD colors are much too bright to be real (in a printed sense). At home, I do layout on the laptop, but do color correction on the CRT-equipped desktop.

I still do. It’s 7 years old and takes ages to power up. Perhaps next month, I’ll finally replace it with an LCD….if the budget permits.

No more CRT’s at home, my last one was an AOC 17″ and it conked out a year after it’s 3-year warranty expired. Aside from the savings in power and space, one reason I prefer LCD’s is they are available in widescreen format. Personally, I would never go back to non-wide screen monitors and I don’t think there are any CRT’s that are in widescreen format right? By the way, when our CRT TV stopped working, we never had it fixed and we have not had any TV at home for more than a year now. Saved us not just money but also time as well.

i still have the AOC 19″ that i bought three or four years ago. i am itching to replace it with a LCD but unless it breaks down my HFO (household financial officer) won’t approve it.

and the only time i open the desktop is when doing some heavy compilation or to burn backups. most of the time i am using my wind while inside the room.

another benefit of LCDs is reduced eyestrain. i am using a 22″ at work (special arrangement) and i can feel the difference at the end of the day.

i have to clarify that power savings are significant for small monitor sizes. i read somewhere that as you go up in screen size, power savings of LCD over CRT monitors are reduced. there is a screen size wherein they have equal power consumption. thereafter, at much larger screen sizes, LCDs consume more power over CRTs.

Didn’t know CRTs consume more power than LCDs…good one on me Abe.

Still have a 17″ AOC at home…bulky as hell, but the thing works. I also sold an old 14″ I think a year ago for 600 pesos I think. I felt like the guy paid me to carry the thing.
