Intel’s new P55 design finally catches up to AMD architecture with the removal of the northbridge and direct lanes to the CPU from the ram. This should make for faster gaming and general performance increases.

I worry that AMD is becoming a niche player in the low end market leavign Intel a practical monopoly for high end desktop systems. We had this once upon a time and it was bad. When AMD released Athlon64, the market was competitive and we beiniftted with low prices for high performance.

Now we are back to an Intel monopoly and prices are sky high again. Enthusiast Intel P* based motherboards go for upwards of PHP12000 these days. That’s crazy and quad core anything is over php15000. When there was competition, high end Nvidia nforce4 based boards were half the price and cutting edge dual core cpus 1/3 the price.

Intel is a bad company to have a monopoly and the new “consumer line” (supposed to be affordable) i5 prices at over php10000 for a CPU prove my point.

Dell Studio XPS 8000 is currently using this processors already..

At least we still have the icore7 9 series hehe..

The i5 and i7 The processors have 8mb cache..
