When will WoW be available in the Philippines?

I haven’t played any PC games for years, the last time I remember having a great time was playing Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne with my officemates at HeadStrong over two years ago. With the introduction of WoW, my excitement to gaming has gone back to its original level. But alas, no wow. :(

WoW has been out for so long and there have been a lot of news about a companies getting the license for it here in the Philippines but until now there’s been no sign of World of Warcraft anywhere. *geez* What’s wrong? Is the license too steep? Are the server/hardware requirements too pricey? Political turmoil? National security? What???

I know the subscription fee in the US is around $29.95 per month (~Php1,600) so it’s not that expensive if you compare it to Khan or Ragnarok Online.

What’s taking them so long?

Oh wait, are the guys running that MMOG farm in Cebu connecting directly into US servers?

WoW will never be officially available in the Philippines. The servers themselves are not licensed to companies like other MMOs. They are directly controlled by Blizzard. It is a quality control thing.

What you can do however is create an account with a US or EU credit card and address. Perhaps you have a relative? Once your account is created, you can connect from anywhere, even the Philippines. I have a few friends who do that.

The subscription fee is around 12-16 dollars depending on how long you sign up for.

Good luck. If you do get on, come by Magtheridon. :) My character name is Redux.

I thought LevelUp! already has a grip on the WoW license?

yeah, news was going around that Level up was lobbying to get the WoW license here,

    4. Gravatar Icon Fleeb replied on Dec 9th, 2005 at 2:47 am (4)

And the news is they don’t seem to be able afford it. I have also heard it would be Level-Up and Mobius combined.

Anyway I am tempting you into this. I got friends who said the game is really cool!

Its very very expensive, AMDG went for Guild Wars instead of World of Warcraft, LevelUp has RFOnline. Honestly it would be successful, but there’s probably not any company not willing to risk that much money yet. Perhaps because the competition is too saturated. Eventually someone will do it soon, but I think AMDG chose right with Guild Wars because it plays better on lower end computers compared to World of Warcraft. Also the no monthly fee helps it though really monthly fees would be no problem here if they made a way with prepaid cards.

Well dude its like this inorder for you to get WoW here in the philippines you need to look for a company who can afford to get blizzard to make servers for us here. And i’ve heared that in doing so a company or some1 muz be able to win an auction that blizzard/blizcon will give. And considering that there are only 1 legit server other than the US means that the starting bid would be so high that not all high-end companies can do so bid.
And yes they are doing the Quality Control thing.

And i cant confirm what my friend said that blizzard made a Korean server juz for koreans.

and yes there were rumors about who will bring WoW in the philippines. But even if WoW will be here in the phil i dont think i’ll be playing the servers here i’ll still stick to US. Just look at the other Online Games arround look wat happend. Do you think that won’t happen to WoW if it ever comes here?
And i dont think the competition is saturated i’d believe that no Company can take the risk of spending SO MUCH and wud be able to gain it back in a couple of months.
The monthly fee’s in US its 15$ per month i duno bout UE but if you do the math its arround 840 more or less.
Think about it…Do you really think Blizzard would juz give away WoW Servers. Dun think so.. ^_^

I have relatives in the Philippines who play WoW on the Doomhammer (U.S.) server. Their accounts are paid for with an American credit card, but they have no problem connecting to and playing the game.

Companies are in talks with blizzard but it seems like its too expensive, like bidding price would be like $2M and additional $3M for setting it up. I’ve been playing wow for like 4 months and has like 2 lvl 60 toons already. This game rocks, but I dont really know if people here can afford it.

Dont Expect too much or you will just get dissapointed. want to Blame this to our politicians? =).

its simple, majority of the gamers here in the philippines cant afford it and Blizzard wont gave it free, unless someone is willing to risk such money.

      Sup its January 2007

15usd monthly ~ 49php:1 usd should be around 735php WHICH IS AFFORDABLE for normal filipinos

GET THIS FRIGGIN GAME IN OUR COUNTRY NOW!

I have been playing the game for almost 2 years and have gear from AQ40/NAXX [for those who play]

and even if I’ve invested so much time on my toon, reasons such as latency issues and American time disparencies [making it unhealthy for Filipinos to raid for good gear] allows this game to be very viable in setting up SE Asia servers.

Another thing is the comming of ‘The Burning Crusade’ expansion making every single current gear obsolete as people level up to 70. This effectively encourages people to reroll or start a new on different servers SHOULD the environment be better [talking about lag :D]

for the record, latencies in the US servers are a whopping low 400~800ms which makes it pitiful for competitive ‘Player vs Player’ [pvp] and sometimes ‘Player vs Environment’ [pve]

People will transfer.. and blizz quality control is a LOT better [massive bannings of cheaters/gold sellers, botters] than the ‘weak’ handling of local MMO companies.

This game has never ‘failed’ at any launch in any country it has been in. EURO KOREA CHINA TAIWAN SPAIN ETC. you name it, IT has been successful and has been the #1 MMO game since its been released

Furthermore, the newest fad here in this country is obviously DOTA which is very similar to WOW’s pvp content as both are based on the same lore and environment.

Dota is played in almost every lanshop I’ve seen and heard of from QC to LAS PINAS to CEBU to Davao. Just log on to US.WEST battle.net server go to ‘PINOY’ channel and see for yourself.

Point is the Filipino’s like this type of game and are settling with the ’shortchanged’ version of the game [DOTA] and they are doing this not because there aren’t other games to play but because the other games available here ’suck’. The MMO’s we have currently are all 3rd rate korean games which have never garnered any international awards whatsoever.

Im posting this in hopes that someone with the right connections may bring this game home to our country. [since google easily brought me to this page just with a simple search of 'world of warcraft philippines']

Thank you and good day :)

World Of Warcraft is a very good game, I’ve played every game out there, Literally, and I say by far World Of Warcraft is the best. Yes fhilipinos can play, I can see that here in this blog, but how would a filipino get the game disks, and a pre-paid game card, if they can’t use credit card? Reasy I ask is, because I have a friend that is from Philipines, and he wants to play so badly. I offered to send him the game disks, and pre-paid game card, but his mother wont trust me. I am an American. I just wanna help out honestly, what I do is send the disks, and the pre-paid game card, and once you recieve the game disks and card, you send me back $40 USD, which is very fair considering it’ll cost me $50 USD to get it all, total, for you. So thats really a great price there, when I only charge that. So its a matter of trust, and I give people a chance to allow me to trust them. And if I recieve the money back, I’ll continue to buy more pre-paid cards for the person, recieve $20 USD back for the card, because it costs $30 USD to buy it. I am a very nice person, and I am a grown man, I am 22 yrs old. I don’t mind helping out, you should enjoy life, and if games make life more fun for you, then so be it, I like to help. If you wanna discuss any possibilities with me, visit my MySpace Page, http://www.myspace.com/ram43040 or email me at russ@goowy.com. If you already play WoW, then you can find me on Skullcrusher server, my characters name is Battleram. My real name is Russell, you can call me Russ. If anyone knows of actual ways for Filipinos to buy the game disks without credit cards, and buy pre-paid cards, let me know please, my friend really wants to play. Thanks for reading this.

i am a flip in Canada and i play WoW, i started through this link https://signup.worldofwarcraft.com/trial/index.htm

its the full game but it is only 10 days, and its free, when the 10 days expire, just use a credit card through the website or a prepaid game card if u can get one. Your character will not be deleted on this trial account, it will just be saved until you purchase a subscription or gamecard.

‘World of Warcraft’ to launch in RP soon

      INQ7.net

THE MUCH anticipated online game “World of Warcraft” will be brought to the Philippines soon, officials of an exclusive licensee of Vivendi Universal Games in the Philippines told INQ7.net on Thursday.

“We’re working on bringing this game to the Philippines. However, we’re currently focusing on promoting and marketing it because Vivendi has yet to assign the game to a local partner,” said Gerry Castro, vice president for marketing and operations of the Asian Media Development Group (AMDG).

AMDG is currently the exclusive distributor of Vivendi Universal games in the Philippines. The World of Warcraft is an online game developed by Blizzard Entertainment and distributed by Vivendi Universal worldwide.

Castro said that the “formal assignment” of the game has not been given to any Philippine-based firm. However, the AMDG is now working with Vivendi in the development of a business plan for the Philippines.

“It’s a massive plan,” Castro admitted, hinting that the plan includes

setting up a local version of the game in the country, the development of customer support, and the marketing of the game.

He also disclosed that Vivendi has been evaluating local Internet data centers that will host the online game.

“Yes, the game will be in the Philippines soon; that we’ve been planning to bring this game to the country; that we have looked to several IDCs that will host the game,” he said.

Ronald Allan Aquino, sales manager at AMDG, said that the Vivendi has released beta copies of the World of Warcraft to three evaluators in the Philippines, namely AMDG, Mobius Online Games Inc., and ePLDT’s gaming arm Netgames.

“It is likely that Vivendi would grant rights to (World of Warcraft) game to a joint venture composed of AMDG and another company,” Aquino said.

Aquino noted that online gaming in the Philippines is now a growing industry with revenues averaging 9.6 million dollars a year.

“This is the current figure with Ragnarok being the only player in the Philippine market,” he added.

Nagtanong tanong kasi ako and i found out from one american friend here in the philippines na available ang WoW dito. He said it costs about 2000Php for 2 months subscription. Naisip ko mura siya for most hardcore gamers. Ang system requirements kasi ng game mataas, so if you can afford that 1G RAM and the other stuff, hindi malayong makakabili ka din ng gamecards. For some of the curious ones who want to play this, try some private servers first and test if your PC can run it smoothly. : )

For those ininformed, WOW is not hard on the system it can run with a p3 processor and a 5 series geforce thats technology 4 yrs ago…

As for the price 15usd right now [45.comething] php exchange rate]is around 700-800 just double a ragnaroks subscription rate but multiply the fun by 10x

The reason why blizzard doesnt allow local hosting in the country isnt about the cost. Its about the quality of service

Give me 1 mmo company that has a strong stance against cheating/botting/php-ing [cashing in] and all those hullabaloos that enables a player to take advantage of in game economy to their favor.. level-up? hell no.. mobious? nope.. amdg? maybe.. but we’ll see that when L2 gets on p2p .. point is none.

Blizzard doesnt want their game to be turned to crap due to poor facilitation that would result their company having a bad image amongst local gamers.

      thx for your read

Gets?

So I don’t think na $20 parin ang monthly subscription when WoW ever comes to our shores. That’s just a bad business move.

    36. Gravatar Icon the dope hunter replied on Dec 10th, 2007 at 10:18 pm (36)

i don’t think blizzard will change the subscription amount of $15.

“Siyempre, alam naman nila na hindi kakayanin ng isang normal gamer ang ganyang klaseng mga prices.”

so if blizzard knows that a normal gamer can’t
afford that price in that certain country, why
would they take the risk on having their product
be sold on a lower price? a price which they
      mainly profit from.
it’s like buying a house for a million dollars and
selling it for half the price u bought it for.
      who gains from it?
