HP has released a strikingly similar netbook to the HP Mini 1000 in Europe — the Compaq Mini 700. Specs are the same with subtle changes in design which includes a large Compaq logo.
Maybe it’s just branding for specific regions or they could be banking on Compaq as a more popular brand of sorts. Don’t know why would they split the model names for similar products {via Notebook Italia}.
