About a year ago, I upgraded my old and clunky P3 system and got myself an Athlon XP2400+. I’m not sure how much it cost me but with 512MB of RAM, an HIS Excalibur Radeon 9200 64MB, 1 x 40 GB & 1 x 80 GB Seagate HDD and 17″ Samsung 753 DFX flatscreen monitor, I guess the entire rig would have landed in the mid-30K to 40k price range. That includes my old Altec Lansing 321 and Samsung CDRW. It was a really great improvement then.
Just recently, I feel that my rig could not quite cope up with the demands and a possible upgrade is an enticing idea. So, after buying a new 160GB HDD last week-end, I checked out prices for a completely new rig. After rounding up an AMD 64 3000, 1 GB RAM, PCI Express card, DVD-RW and a 19″ flat screen monitor, I was abit shocked thatthe whole thing costs about Php55K. Still too pricey a PC for me.
Methinks, I should hold it off until the end of the year. With how fast new processors are being churned out by AMD & Intel, especially with the dual-procs and and quad-procs in the near horizon, I am sure the prices will drop to a more affordable level. Prices of RAM and hard drives are also on its way down. Let’s just wait a couple more months.
Besides, I am expecting a Mac Mini soon, so I’ll need to be on budget here. :)
