Lenovo ThinkPad X100e in the flesh!

We’re very lucky to have a preview of the new Lenovo ThinkPad X100e before it’s formally released this Monday. I’ve got a bunch of close-up photos and first impressions after the jump.

The unit I got is the entry-level model running an AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 @ 1.6GHz (single core). Here’s the complete specs:

The X100e still has that same matte finish. No curvy or rounded edges here but the usual rugged look.

The same red dot in the middle of the keyboard is a signature mark of the ThinkPad. Nice keyboard layout and concave-shaped keys except that the Fn key is on the left-most instead of the Ctrl key.

The signature trackpad is here as well and though it seems it’s got a smaller surface area, the matte finish makes touch sensitivity better and easier to use. I have to get used to the clickers being buried that deep but so far, I liked it.

The ThinkPad comes with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed. Lenovo will officially announce its availability this Monday with a starting price of Php28,990. I think that’s the most affordable ThinkPad I’ve ever seen and already a sweet deal.

I already did a number of tests and benchmarks on this rig and it performs quite well. Will have a quick review up by Monday just in time for the announcement.

Mga sir, which is a better deal? This Lenovo Thinkpad X100e or HP Pavilion DV2? User po ako ng mga mabibigat na programs like Photoshop and Visual Studio.. Ano po kaya ang mas magandang choice pagdating dito?

hey… not sure if this is my first post.. anyhow… I think this model of Lenovo is their entry to the netbook but those that have a very powerful processor. Just watch the video of Dave Graveline interviewing Bob Grim the Director of Product Marketing of AMD.

Nice. The only fail seems to be that it comes with Windows 7 pre-installed, which means we can’t probably have it without the OS.

the looks: great, just right for their target market
the battery life: had it been intel, the battery could have risen to say an hour or two

in summary, i wish they have an intel option for those who really want longer battery life.

@Derrick: Thanks for this. Well this is certainly helpful for those planning to buy a Thinkpad soon. But it doesn’t help those of who us who already own one.
Normally, I’d wish you could offer this BIOS update also to us old TP owners but then that means I would have to unlearn the Fn and Ctrl key placement I’ve now been accustomed to. I guess I’m just mad because I remember my frustrations each time I use a non-Thinkpad laptop.

Wow! 29k from Lenovo, this I have to check in tech stores.

Most affordable Thinkpad yet although still above average as compared to prices from the netbook category.

hows the bat life abe? and how does the radeon compare to an nvidia 9400m of the ion? kaya mag 720p at least?

i like the keys on this one but patrick is right about the left Fn key placement. it should be ctrl on the leftmost.

the lenovo touchpad is really unattractive and is due a redesign.

I think glossy ang screen pero pangit parang in-between matte and glossy. Dapat matte screen nalang, dami nang glossy screen sa mga low-powered.

@L.R.: I think that’s how they design Thinkpad’s now. My R61 also has the thinkpad logo like that. Anyway, I prefer it like this so the brand isn’t as easy to see. :D

Fn key still on the leftmost huh? I still hate you for this Lenovo! You’re the only manufacturer who insists on this layout, AFAIK.

But this indeed is a sweet deal for those thinking of getting a netbook but also want the reliability of the Thinkpad brand.
