Been getting email and SMS inquiries about Dell retail stores here in the Philippines since its launch last month so I sent a couple of questions to Dell to get more details about their local presence. Check out their reply after the jump.
YugaTech: How large is Dell’s retail network in the Philippines now? Is it only in Metro Manila and other major cities?
Dell Inc.: Dell’s retail network was launched in Metro Manila but it’s now available throughout many parts of the Philippines as they are now available in Abenson, Electroworld, Avant, PC Live, Accent Micro and Octagon Computers.
YugaTech: Will Dell open up its own retail stores like existing competitors — Lenovo, HP, etc? Or will it partner with existing computer stores? If so, which ones will carry Dell products?
Dell Inc.: The retail stores are open by Dell’s retailers, not by Dell directly. They will most definitely be available in their partners’ store.
YugaTech: Will (or how) will Dell provide after-sales support? Online, phone, service centers?
Dell Inc.: The after-sales service will be provided by Dell’s authorized retailers - Abenson, Electroworld, Avant, PC Live, Accent Micro and Octagon Computers.
YugaTech: Is there a plan to put up an online retail shop like the ones in neighboring Asian countries (Dell Singapore, Dell Malaysia online stores)?
Dell Inc.: Not at the moment. Dell does not have a license to sell directly in the Philippines. Because of this, we are not able to provide the direct business model like in Malaysia and Singapore.
YugaTech: Which line of products will be introduced – desktops, laptops, LCD monitors, printers, scanners, storage devices?
Dell Inc.: For notebooks/laptops: Inspiron 1420, 1520, 1525, XPS 1530, 1330; with desktop PCs: Inspiron 530, 530s.
According to earlier press releases, across ASEAN, Dell products are now available in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. The expansion plan will cover Vietnam in the coming months. Dell also announced relationships with Courts in Singapore, Fosa and Tech Asia in Malaysia, Com7 and PowerBuy in Thailand, Gome in China.
Hope this answers some of those nagging questions by Dell fans. Personally, I was in the look-out for those 24-inch LCD displays they got on bargain in Malaysia.

It’s cheap and if they give Dell Direct license, brands like Neo (local brand right) will be in danger.

The service part sucks. Local retailers doing the service for Dell? Most local stores don’t know the difference between the monitor and the CPU!
^right bob. and when the lcd go bonkers… “how may i help you sir… ah here sir, we will completely replace the LCD sir… only 15 thousand pesos sir…” says the Local Store Technician.
A lot of Filipinos can endure the anxiety of owning a dell knowing that the warranty is not served here in the Philippines. Ngayon pa kaya meron na.
It’s about time. Hopefully, I can bring in my borked Inspiron to any Accent Micro, Electroworld (*NOT* Octagon) store and have it repaired.

my gf recently bought an Inspiron 1420 for almost P36k from Electroworld. i am yet to test fully its capability though i already tried ripping some music from an original cd and i just noticed that some songs were “broken” although the ripping was successful. for the next few weeks siguro we’ll know how good is good.

I walked in onto the Accent Micro store in Megamall when i caught a glance of dell inspiron while window shopping. I was actually canvassing for a good budget laptop. however the salesman at that branch seemed to be rude. what was he doing there in the first place with that attitude? Pano kaya sila mbebentahan? I’d rather buy a Dell sa electroworld or PC Live. Accent Micro, revamp your sales staff.
dell doesn’t serve warranty. is this true? i must have my inspiron adapter replaced.
