So curiosity got the better of me and I bought the new MSI Wind12 U210x that day I found out about its local availability. Turns out this model is selling like hot cakes and I got the last unit of the batch.

This thing is already big to be called a netbook at 12.1 inches.
MSI Wind12 U210x
12.1″ screen @ 1355×768 pixels
AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 1.6GHz Dual Core
2GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 1270 128MB
250GB Toshiba SATA HDD
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
1.3MP webcam
4-in-1 card reader
3 USB 2.0 ports
HDMI port
9-cell battery
The unit sells for Php22k for cash or straight charge (Php23k for 6 months 0% installment). They’d install Windows 7 RC for you if you like. The model with a licensed Vista OS costs Php26,500 (Php27.5k for installment) at Villman stores.
The AMD Athlon Neo dual core processor performs really well. Will post a full review and some benchmarks comparing it to the Intel Atom by next week.

nice nice nice! had an old msi netbook before, when all of them were offering 1GB Ram, mine came with 2GB out of the box. LOL! i love MSI.
this new netbook seems promising. can’t wait for your review.
wish list this xmas…
I’m getting confused over MSI wind u210x and HP mini 311… which is better kaya? ATI or Nvidia?
I think this deserves an unboxing too Yuga, may tripod ka na ba?
128mb lang yung graphic shipset niya?
I meant “chipset” and not “shipset”
I have never been thrilled with MSI products but this one is oozing with anticipation
the specs are awesome for its size!
Yuga – Hope you can also include how it performs in the battery life department.
Please include the Windows Experience Index for Windows 7 and Vista.
I would very much like to see if it can handle H264 videos. AND how fast it can run games like Call of Duty 4 or Counterstrike Source
Good combination. Hopefully you’ll have a video review. I will be looking for a replacement for my 12-inch Dell.
There’s this observation from laptopmagazine”
“The U210’s 12.1-inch screen is remarkably bright, and its 1366 x 768 resolution ideal for watching HD video. For simple tasks, though, such as Web surfing and word processing, you might find yourself squinting; while this resolution is standard for slightly larger models, such as 13-inchers, it makes text look a bit too small on a screen this size.”
I would very much like to see how this performs on H264 videos and DirectX games (like Call of Duty 4 or Counterstrike Source)
Wow! I’d like to install Linux Mint on that!
wow. 22k free dos. 9-cell batt. is it matte LCD too?
pwedeng-pwede.
possible din ba dito ang “hackintosh” tulad sa mga lumang msi 10-inch netbooks?
tapos in a 2-3 months time, darating naman ang mga budget 13.3-inch models like HP DM3 and acer timeline, ung asus meron na rin. competitive din ang price to 12-inch models. this is tempting and confusing as well. overall, its still a great news:-)
no digital out typical msi & acer, kaya i never consider any of their products..
2GB DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon Xpress 1270 128MB
more games. hope it can play wow, civ 4, and eu3
this is very affordable (specs-wise) for a small-sized GAMING NOTEBOOK.. but this is not a big-sized NETBOOK..
kudos to MSI! sana lampasuhin nila yung mga same priced, totally expensive NETBOOKS
Hi Sir Abe mind if I ask where you bought this unit that installs a free Windows 7 RC?.. That’s a better deal for 22k than buying the 27k that has Vista Home Basic..
@chrislpc
HDMI port -> this is not digital for you?
I’m on the same boat as @ricky, looking into the U210x as a probably hackingtosh. I wonder if there’s drivers for the Athlon Neo on the current hackintosh builds.
@Brian_B
good find on the 1366 x 768 resolution. I doubt it’ll be actual hindrance for usage. My former Asus LCD had the same resolution. You just need to adjust to the extra pixels (and take note of it when running apps with fixed resolutions say 1024 x 768)
@creepy
Windows 7 RC is free to use till March 2010 where it shutsdown after 2 hours. It will be useless somewhere in June/July 2010
Hoping this product gets reviewed based on
-Windows Experience Index
-H.264 decoding (up to 1920×1080)
-battery life (idle/surfing/torrenting and medium load)
-cpu temp during idle and medium load
Kakalito na ang dami ng models na 12 “,bkit kaya di pa sinama ang optical drive?
It lies somewhere between a notebook and a netbook (Ultraportable Notebook)so the drive is a thing they let go in exchange for portability and weight
looks like Villman is offering it now:

@lollipown i meant coaxial or optical digital audio out. if you own a audio receiver without HDMI this unit cannot provide digital 5.1 sound.
^
errr.. you’re looking for an audiophile peripheral on a budget netbook?
This has more powerful CPU processor than HP311 (64bit dual core) but inferior graphics (x1270 vs 9400M of HP311). Should be better if this can fit more than 3GB of ram.
I wish MSI would have put the Radeon HD3200 rather than the X1270 to minimize the graphics performance gap between this and the HP311. The choice then in terms of specs would be a no brainer (in favor of MSI)
Anyone knows how to claim the 9cell battery? My sister and I bought one each of this good notebook last Oct 31 and we are supposed to call a phone number to claim the 9cell battery. However, we cannot contact them–the phone number does not work.
Help please. Thank you.
ganda ng netbook na toh haha, wala ako masabi, kudos to MSI… at least pag boring nakakapaglaro ako ng mga games di kagaya nung U100… ang gaan pa kaya sarap dalhin hehe…
sir may i ask if you have any information on the availability of the WHITE model of this netbook? I really want the white one. it looks cooler.
@armaziel – MSI says there’s no white model ATM.
@francis – go get it from the store you bought it.
this would probably run games at low res. awesome specs for a netbook though, this will spank those atom based books around.
Unfortunately i haven’t seen any MSI Wind U210x here in Brunei, so i guess i will end up buying the Acer 1410 with the dual core celeron. Mr. Yuga, if you can get a hold of this 1410, kindly do a review. thanks in advance….
