Samsung i8000 Omnia II gets official

While we’re waiting for the Omnia HD to become available in the Philippines, Samsung has once again announced another upcoming Omnia smartphone. The Samsung i8000 Omnia II is the real successor to the Omnia series.

GSM Arena has a preview here but see list below for a run-down of the specs of the new Omnia II.

samsung i800 omnia ii

  • 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen (480×800 pixels)
  • HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
  • 800 MHz CPU
  • 8GB or 16GB storage memory
  • microSD card slot (up to 32GB)
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with custom TouchWiz 2.0 UI
  • 5 MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash (video at 720×480 @ 30fps)
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g
  • Bluetooth with A2DP
  • GPS receiver with A-GPS

That’s a very large screen, large storage capacity (48GB total) and a high-capacity battery (1500 mAh) in one device. One thing that could be a bit disappointing is that it will come with Windows Mobile 6.1 instead of the newer 6.5 version.

my problem with this phone is that i dont find that cube/box design near the bottom appealing.no worries with the wm6.1 since it can be upraged to 6.5 once it comes out.
if only samsung made the omnia hd with windows mobile instead of symbian, i think that would be a better phone than the omnia II

too bad they didn’t retain at least the 8MP camera :( or at least upgraded it to 12MP to match SE Idou.

    Hay… I’m confused then.

If samsung will price the omnia i800 right
im pretty sure that this model will be a tough competition
    to the 3Gs.

5 MB is a little disadvantage sa model na to but the cube is really tempting to take home haha

  18. Gravatar Icon jctechcom replied on Jul 7th, 2009 at 3:56 pm (18)

    still 5MP, only larger screen

Its ok even if it is still 6.1, even the old omnia i900 can be upgraded to 6.5.

The problem will be the software… will they run in Omnia 2? It has a larger screen now…

for free omnia 1 software visit:

and I prefer Omnia HD… why release omnia 2???

I email samsung philippines, sabi nila MID august daw magkakaron dito, around 30k yung 8gb while 33k yung 16gb..

    malapit lapit narin! hehe

  20. Gravatar Icon irispen replied on Jul 18th, 2009 at 2:52 pm (20)

lahat namn ng WinMO phones, pwedeng i upgrade.

5MP is enough, masydo ng malaki ang 8MP kakainin lang yung memory nyo, hirap pa magsend via bluetooth. LOL

Main selling point of Omnia 2 is:
800Mhz Processor, Uber Sensitive Screen (even better than omniaHD’s), New Touchwiz 2 interface.

    nice…!

kung mid-august ang release date d2

i would prefer this as my bday gift 2 myself,

ahahah, im planning 2 hav an omnia i900

    pero nung nkita q 2 sa gsmarena…heheh

    naka2lito n… :D

    this fone rules :)

this is really hard. i’ve been lusting over omnia hd for quite sometime now and was about to buy one then this thing flashed out of the blue. i’ll wait till this new breed of omnia hits the market before buying a new phone. dAMI omnia ng samsung, there’s also what they call omnia pro and omnia lite. *dizzy*
