Sony Vaio P Official Specs and Photos

Sony has officially announced it’s own version of a high-end netbook. Not that this is Sony’ first but the Vaio P departs from the usual netbook form factor and cheap pricing by offering a pocket-sized version.

The Sony Vaio P skipped the trackpad in favor of a pointing stick (nipple mouse) so they were able to save more space. Live photos courtesy of Engadget and official specs are listed below.

sony vaio p

Intel Atom Z530 1.33GHz
8 inch (1600×768 pixels) display screen
60GB HDD, 64GB SSD or 128GB SSD Storage
2GB DDR2 RAM
2 USB ports
SD/Memory Stick slot
Ethernet
WiFi 802.11n
Bluetooth
3G (EV-DO)
Integrated GPS

MS Windows Vista

It has one of the oddest dimensions — 9.6″ x 4.7″ x .78″ — but is short and thin enough to allegedly fit in your pocket. Weighs only 1.4 pounds too and comes with a default 3-cell battery that could last 4 hours (an optional 6-cell battery will last it 8 hours). It also has that instant-on feature where it boots up almost automatically with limited features.

Price starts at $899.99 to $1,499 on the SSD options.

Its called a ‘nipple mouse’? ewww… I thought the generic term was ‘trackpoint’ or something…

I find it so hard to use the “nipple” mouse. Maybe if I got one, I’ll always bring a USB mouse with me.

    @Andre

ROLF you can say that again! hahaha

i’m sooo gettin’ this when it comes out in manila ^_^

but im sure it wont be cheap. $899 could mean at least P50k here. ouch.

that “vaio” and “sony” branding/trademark makes this device highend, and can surely turn heads lol.

any idea on the official launch date?

    thanks

OMG! It’s like a dream come true! A netbook with a trackpoint! Trackpads are very cumbersome to use. It’s like using a mouse. It requires you to move your hands away from the keyboard which can be very counterproductive for programmers. Anyway, this could have been my dream netbook but why did it have to be a VAIO?! Oh gawd…

Would love to have this… Better get this one than Xperia

I want this one! However, since the other regular sized laptop (Vaio) sells at 49k, I wonder if I’m gonna get that instead. Converting 900usd to php sums up to about 43k php… add 6k more and you get a regular sized laptop that has a cd burner (needed by those people who take a lot of pics, myself included).

I hope the price of this one can go down to at least 37k (comparable to the HP mini note with 120G hard drive).

    Dilemma! Help!

I would definitely choose this over hp/asus netbooks.

Really not worth the price, this is typical of Sony to overprice their products. You can get double the memory and hard disk space with a bigger easier to see screen for around £299! like the HP mini note or something…. theres a limit to how small you can make these things before the become impossible to use …….
