Asus Eee PCs aren't UMPC, they are actually MIDs(Mobile Internet Device). Because of it's storage capacity, it will be limited to a few small apps(programs), although it has as desktop like processor, yet it's ram limits it maximum capabilities. Originally, Asus Eee PCs comes pre-installed with linux based OS(operating system) for reasons of having small footprint on it's storage medium. Yet still, there's packages with windows xp pre-installed, it almost fills up the whole SSD hard drive, leaving almost no space for full office applications. But using portable apps on external devices can be our work-arounds.

I'm a newbee in IT and i am 56 years old already but nevertheless i still got interested and want to learn more. I have a desktop pc at home and windows xp as my os. i have experienced on several occasions that my pc won't boot and it seems like its totally dead. only after reformatting and re-installing my windows xp that it would again boot. I have a 4gb and 8gb flashdrive, is there a way that i can make my flashdrive bootable, and if so, how can i do it? Please enlighten me on this and thank you in advance

Hi all,

I purchased a Deep Blue H1 (PCExpress). To tell you the truth, Linpus Linux pales in comparison to the eeePC Xandros Linux version (wifi problems using WPA, unusually long loading times randomly happening). This fault is due to Linpus itself (pretty bad configuration and apt4rpm repositories are not configured properly).

I re-installed using a Windows XP installer that was lying around unused (because my desktop is running PCLinuxOS) and suffice to say it works pretty well (the 1Gb RAM helps a lot for XP). It’s a wonderful secondary mobile computer. I also installed MSOffice 2003 as well and winamp.

Comparing linux to XP though, XP does run slower - as evident when I play videos (720×480 XVID HD) in both linpus (before I deleted it) and XP.

Typing this in the Blue H1 now. And yes, I chose this over the eeePC due to the specs/price configuration.

Thanks for the round-up, very useful.

In my opninon the H1 is better, but if it's about the weight, I'd rather get the Astone UMPC since it's got more features.
