The Acer Aspire One is confirmed!

Acer doesn’t want to be left behind the UMPC wars either. The Acer Aspire One was introduced during the Computex at Taipei, Taiwan yesterday.

This one now has those much awaited Intel Atom CPUs.

  • 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 LED-backlit display
  • 1.6GHz Atom N270
  • 512MB DDR2 SDRAM (expandable to 1GB)
  • 1.3 megapixel camera, SDHC and multi-format media readers
  • 802.11b/g, Ethernet, three USB 2.0, VGA, and 3.5mm audio out
  • One free mini PCI slot for WWAN
  • 80GB hard drive (with XP) or 8GB solid state (with Linux)
  • 2.5 to 5 hours between the 3 and 6-cell batteries in XP model, 3 or 7 hours on Linux
  • 1kg (2.2 pounds)

Acer Aspire One Netbook

Looks like the 8.9″ UMPCs hit the sweet spot for a 1024 x 600 pixel screen resolution. No more horizontal scrolling. This model will lug it out with the EeePC 900, HP Mini Note, MSI Wind PC and the ECS G10IL.

Unofficial price starts at Php17,500 but will sure be between Php20-Php25k once it hits the Philippines later this year.

    i love it’s blue color!

Just wondering which is better. An 8.9″ or a 10″ display?

I’d love to get my hands on the Linux version, papa upgrade ko nalang to 2gb RAM. Hopefully these won’t have Atheros/Broadcom WiFi chips as they cause problems with other Linux distros.

Looks good and I like the blue model. On the other hand its only advantage over the 900 is the processor(ok maybe the mini PCI slot assuming modules for the mini PCI do come out).

Nice. The HP Mininote is now officially off my list (too expensive), and i guess between the Asus 901 and MSI Wind, this looks like the winner (depends though if I feel like having 2 GB RAM). As for the Dell, it’s the winner when it comes to outside color, but the interior is a blah silver/gray, so Acer gets my money (and not too much of it, because the price is good)! Unless something happens before it comes out…

The Dell mini might have a better screen though. I’m really thinking seriously about this one. Atom processor is probably faster than Centrino, right?

i got mine today and all i can say is perfect! :) you just have to deal with the very limited linux os bundled with it. i might install ubuntu to replace it.

I’m getting mine tomorrow! =) I’m just wondering if I change the linpus linux os to ubuntu 8.04, will I have problems loading the drivers for the ACER aspire one? I hope somebody can confirm this… =)

I’m getting one tommorow! =) I just hope it’s possible to change the linpus linux Os with Ubuntu 8.04. I’d prefer that over the linpus but then again, I got no problems using Linux OS anyways. =)

  16. Gravatar Icon yuga replied on Jul 20th, 2008 at 9:40 pm (16)

@jliceralde - it’s an Intel CPU so I don’t think there’ll be any problems with x86 version of Ubuntu.

if you change your OS to ubuntu will you be able to upgrade your memory form 8gb to even more? LIKE what windows is offering? windows OS and an 80gb memory?…well will the windows modwl be available??

linpus has skype pre-installed in distro.

trash the ssd to put a spinning thing with tech from the 1980s into it? nah. I’ll pass.

Did everyone throw away their desktops in the Philippines? I have never seen a HD dependancy like you have here. A 5 year old desktop is likely to have 80 gigs+ on it. Why bother maxing out a 32 ounce device that you hold in your palm? Just sync w/ desktop. done.

i cant see a mini-PCI slot on the AO. it says in the specification, the slots are for dedicated SD and multi in one card reader. is the multi in one card reader serves also as mini-PCI slot? thanks.
