Just noticed that some PC stores are now carrying AMD Phenom X4 processors. These are the new quad core processors from AMD with the X4 9500 rated at 2.2GHz and the X4 9600 at 2.3GHz.
Wonder why AMD is still way delayed in this front (I’ve been an AMD fan for half a decade). The Intel Quad Cores (Q6600 @ 2.4GHz 8MB) are out for a year now and have gone down in price by half since July of last year.
The AMD Phenomâ„¢ 9000 series processors still run at 65nm and is dubbed by AMD as the true quad core since all the 4 cores are laid out on a single die, sports a 2MB L3 cache shared by all four cores and supports Socket AM2+ with 450 million transistors. The X4 9500 retails for Php13,00 and the X4 9600 at Php14,140.
Let’s take a quick look at how the AMD Phenom fair against Intel’s Kentsfield in the quad core arena:

At 100MHz higher, the Intel Q6600 is even cheaper by almost Php2,000. Reviews from CNET isn’t even promising for AMD either. The L3 cache is yet to justify for an improved performance. The only contribution it obviously added was to the price of the chip.

Yehey! Go AMD + ATI! :-D
I’m waiting for their Fusion platform and 45nm multicore processors. Intel is only good for subnotebooks, just like VIA. LOL!
Just kidding…
But I do like AMD better. ;-)
