My twelve-day trip to Germany will be finalized this week, since this will be happening during the busy December. Before I go back home, I am thinking of doing some cross-country backpacking of some sorts in select destinations around Europe. Problem is, I’m clueless. Any recommendation?

I have two destinations in mind — Paris, France and Rome, Italy. The objective — climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower and visit The Vatican in Rome in just 7 days. That should give me time to get back to the Philippines by the 20th of December (leaving for Cologne, Germany on Dec. 1).

The budget – â‚¬1,000 euros. That should cover travel (train or airplane), hotel and food. If time permitted, maybe an overnight trip to London (I have cousins there) first before going to Paris?

I’ve been doing some Google Maps searching, reading travel sites, and looking into train and place schedules.

Any tips, suggestions or recommendations (especially with transportation and sleeping accommodations) will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

RyanAir is fine but the airports are always at the end of nowhere (not going from Cologne). The train will take you HOURS (except to Paris, takes 4 hours from Cologne –> thalys.com).

I would recommend Paris for sure! Venice is great, too. Unfortunately I have never been to London and Rome yet but will be one of my next trips. What about Berlin?

Paris over Rome. I was there earlier this year. Rome was very disappointing. The Colosseum cost about 11 Euros to enter and is just a bunch of rubble (as well as the other sites). Italy isn’t clean compared to France. In fact, it reminds me of Manila. When in Paris take the “Red Bus” for about 50 Euros, you will be brought to all the usual sights. You can get on and off the bus until 9pm I think. Cheap clothes in Paris is on St. Michele. Everything else is expensive. Na senti ako sa Cologne. Why don’t you swing by Bruges in Belgium as well… nagandahan ako dun. Am sure your camera will get tired taking shots of all the pretty sights. Pero grabe December…ang lamig nun!

Abe, my recommendation is this…contact Yas when you go to Paris. He’s there right now and that should save you a bit in accomodation. =)

Just brig a good camera and take snapshots, don’t have to look t the sites too long.

Eat at McDonald’s so you’ll have enough money for Dutch girls.

to add, the historical background as well as useful info about the place or the museum’s enrance fee and how to get there are discussed in some selected places. So you can plan what to visit first or you can draw your itinerary.

you’d need at least 3 days siguro to truly enjoy rome. the basilica will already take half a day, the sistine chapel a full day. plus paris, doable yan in 7 days.

instead of train, look at ryan air (budget airline) as well. it migh come out cheaper, and would save you time. altho you might be able to save some if you go on the overnighter trains. pero pagod non, tol!

you should try and swing by berlin as well. there’s a direct fast speed train from kÃ¶ln (check bahn.de).

you’ll need a different visa if you want to go to UK, though.
