Last week, I discussed about filtering blog-related ads from your AdSense account in order to Maximise Click Through Rate (CTR). I made the recommendation based on Shaolin Tiger’s post here.
Well, after implementing partial domain filtering on our accounts (Connie & I) over the past week, the average daily AdSense revenue seems to have decreased by at least 25%. Mine is less (or almost) negligible but Connie’s account showed a more significant depreciation.
The site which was highly affected by the filtering was PinoyBlog and Houseonahill.net, with the former almost loosing all its clicks.
I realized that filtering blog related ads for a site that’s all about blogs and blogging (PinoyBlog) is a big blunder. Since we are tracking the effect of ad filtering per channel, initial results showed that the focused blogs (those streamlined like PinoyTechBlog) are the ones that benefit the most with higher CTRs while the general blogs like Houseonahill lost a lot of low-paying clicks which could still have translated to several dollars of revenue per day.

Anyway CTR isnt so important, it just tells you how effective your ads are, CPM is the best basis for measuring increase/decrease in advertising $. I bet if you moved your menu to the left side and content to the right or put a skyscraper ad on the left your CPM would go up
I set the Apache connections too low. Didn’t notice that it already causes time-outs.
I just adjusted it now. Could you feel the difference already? 
With regards to the CTR, I was just hoping that by removing the $0.01 clicks the higher-paying ones with replace them.

Well filtering blog related URL’s on a blog about blogs wouldn’t be a great idea, as you would end up with no adverts, ads being context sensitive, is the only context available is blog related keywords, then you’ll be served only public service ads.
Blog related keywords and personal blogs aren’t destined to make money though, perhaps $1US per day..
Those with higher paying keywords such as technology and pharmacuticals and perhaps covering other broader issues do have the chance though, and it’s good to filter out the lower paying ads on such sites.
