LF: Home-based Medical Transcription Work

I’m looking for any gig related to medical transcription work or related fields. Should be home-based. It’s not for me but I’m helping out an old friend get some part-time job while he’s finishing med school. If you know of some work related in this area, please direct me to them.

I’m also hooking him up with with blog networks that needs bloggers in the med industry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

An interesting post, Abe, and interesting in the responses you did (and didn’t) receive. My wife and I have discussed this very business a number of times since we moved full-time to the Philippines.

On line medical transcribing has been a viable on-line, work at home business since before there was a http://WWW. An old friend, now deceased, once completely baffled the phone company back in Colorado Springs when he ordered 12 more phone lines for his residential address. He already had 24 lines, all with modems connected and he needed more. His business model was collecting audio dictation and textual notes from doctor’s offices (via dial up in those days) and his wife, an experienced transcriptionist, would consolidate and record files and assign direct transcription work to individual contractor transcriptionists, then quality control the produced transcription work, forward it back to the doctors and, of course, collect the bills and pay the contractors.

In the Philippines we seem to have taken one leap forward by building call centers, but they are still archaic in my view. Why to all those folks have to commute to large, expensive offices when in reality they only need a phone and a computer to do their work. Software already exists to account for their work hours, productivity, billing and payments and the notion that they have to travel to a group location seems so out of touch it amazes me.

There’s a huge world-wide market in legal transcription too, both court room work and more mundane tasks in law offices.

A tremendous opportunity here for a Filipino business person who understands the system but is not mired down in the “rent an office”, “physically punch a time clock” mentality.

    19. Gravatar Icon K replied on Nov 14th, 2007 at 3:51 pm (19)

I have been paid by hbt4all …some $100….but they pay only when one sticks with them….Indemt…how do u say it is scam …scams dont pay….infact it was said to me that few MTs ran away in middle …..leaving the company baffled…he didnt tell me which country’s MTs….But i got paid and i am working still with them…..

    20. Gravatar Icon goosebumps replied on Nov 16th, 2007 at 9:03 pm (20)

      here is a hint….

A good and trusted HMT company should have

      COMPANY WEBSITE
      ADDRESS
      CONTACT NUMBER

if any of these criteria is missing, chances are you have been scammed!

      J,

contact HBTs client and tell them that you are not being paid by the company you are working with…

this should pay them lesson esp people like HBT or (Mahesh)….

    23. Gravatar Icon J replied on Nov 26th, 2007 at 1:12 pm (23)

it is confirmed that hbt4all@yahoo.com is a SCAM… They dont pay at all….Such loosers who gained interest from other people….. So beware… maybe now they change their address and recruiting people that they can fool again…. No wonder why their transcriptionist ran away because they dont pay at all….

i am currently doing sub-contractor work with Transcripro by being their Homebased Medical Transcriptionist. Their main office is in Baguio but I was able to register for the business slot in their Manila branch (just beside the Vito Cruz LRT station).Check it out if this would be good for you as it is for me. They only have limited slots available so call first before you go its 701-5444 to 45. The girl who assisted me in my registration thru training is FHEL.
