Cuil, a new Irish-termed search engine, is out in public. They claim they’re a different kind of search engine — well, at least in background color.
Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.

So far, search is fast and relevant. Nice addition with the topic tab for grouping relevance and multi-column so you don’t scroll much. Cuil boasts of over 121 Billion web pages indexed.
They look promising especially when two of the founders were former architect of Google’s large search index, TeraGoogle, that launched in early 2006.

They are down!
“We’ll be back soon…
Due to overwhelming interest, our Cuil servers are running a bit hot right now. The search engine is momentarily unavailable as we add more capacity.
Thanks for your patience.

They’ve been yugatech’ed!
I’ve tried this yesterday and it was cool…
Hmm.. I wonder how we’ll submit our sites.
My keywords are still unindexed XD
Looks interesting. I wonder if Google will buy them soon? LOLZ
hmm. try it out, its web 2.0 google hehehe..
it is like a blog-ish search engine…
sadly not all sites are being listed.. ex. ATI
- wait. correction not all keywords are being recognized, I typed Radeon and amd-ati site comes out..
- fascinating enough: Abe’s site (yugatech) is listed hehehe. Just for fun..
Let’s support this one like we do with Firefox! Big G is monopolizing the web search!
Hey Yuga,
I tried searching YUGATECH and YUGA and your Site is indexed on it… your website was shown first. Hehe, good for your website.
cuil is the first black themed search engine in the world. talk about dark horse err dark browse.
yipee, my site is at cuil.
i’m happy. too bad, the flock is locked at/by google.
The only good thing about Cuil is the black homepage. This is very ‘green’. If people actually make the switch and decide to use it, they’ll conserve electricity… The idea, however, was clearly stolen from Google, who turned off the lights on their home page for a day.
Cuil links unrelated images to some search results, as I found when I tried searching for my site. Emailed them to report it, though I doubt they will reply. At least the image wasn’t unsafe for work.
Ah, nice my blog is indexed!
