When we were traveling in Germany a few weeks back, I was pretty amazed that almost all cars there have GPS systems installed. It was way cool, IMO. I wished we have those kind of tracking systems here locally. I get lost all the time. Just the other day, it took us more than 8 hours to get to Baguio because I didn’t know which way we’re going. I only realized we were going the wrong way when the morning sun was shining on my left instead of right while thinking we’re heading up north (okay, we went in circles around Concepcion).

Anyway, this tracking key doesn’t actually solve my problem above. The device is for another purpose altogether which is basically to track vehicles. It’s a small pocket-size device which has a strong magnet you can stick on any metal part of a car (or anything you basically want to track). In short, this one is for doing surveillance.

Yeah, you’d feel like James Bond or maybe Nancy Drew but this rig can have a lot of practical uses. Tracking the cars of your kids, husband or boyfriend perhaps? *heh* Or if you own a business, you can track delivery vans to see if they’re plying the normal routes or going on detours. Same can be done with public taxis or buses. The device gets its signal from the twenty-four Department of Defense GPS satellites orbiting the earth.

Just stick the small device somewhere inside the car where it’s not visible. Once you get it back, plug it in your computer and use Google Earth to see which location it’s been — plug and play, that easy. The GPS tracking system is accurate up to about 2.5 meters. It’s powered by 2 AAA batteries and is water-resistant.

The device costs about $229 after rebate. Cheaper than getting a personal investigator.
