In a press briefing yesterday afternoon, executives from Globe Telecom formally announced their new Globe Duo service – a mobile and landline number in one SIM.
I was able to clarify some of the earlier concerns and questions I had about the service (since I’m also a subscriber).
- Some areas outside of NCR has an area code of +02 like San Pedro, Laguna. Globe is making an exception for these areas and include them in the Duo coverage.
- Globe has confirmed that they will expand the Duo service to other cities and provinces although there’s no set date on their roll-out.
- The Globe Duo service is currently open only to post-paid subscribers. Globe is preparing to offer these to pre-paid subscribers too.
- Duo would not really eat into the NDD market since all the free unlimited calls are restricted within their own subscribed area code (that means a +02 Duo number can only make and receive free calls from any +02 landline number and Duo subscribers assigned with +02).
Since Globe has already shown that it’s easily to integrate a mobile and landline number into a single SIM card, it’s then theoretically doable to have multiple mobile and landline numbers into one SIM (e.g. 3 mobile numbers and 2 landline numbers in one SIM card). Now, that’s convergence.

Wow, this is really an interesting service.
They will leave the PLDT Landline Plus from a mile with this new services. That is the biggest drawback from the PLDT Landline Plus, you will need to have other cellphone to use as your cellphone, but with this one you can use your cellular phone for texting and to contact anyone to anywhere. You will not waste using other phones.
This is a big leap from Globe. We just hope that it will immediately be spread nationwide.
Hintayin niyo lang ang offer ng PLDT. It’s letting its competitors ‘lay all its cards on the table’ before it responds.
All I can say is that it give Globe a run for its money.
Hi Administrator. I would just like to know if Globe Duo will be a permanent service or not because unless it becomes a permanent service, I am reluctant to subscribe the Duo service to my other Globe Mobile Phone and cut off my SunTel and my PLDT Wireless Landline subscription. I just don’t like the idea that one day when this promo ends, people can’t call me anymore in case of emergency or I might be missing important business calls one the last day of the service. I cant even print my Globe Duo number on my calling card because I don’t know until when the service will exist. Can you also raise this concern with Globe? Globe should clarify this. It should be a permanent service as not to have these questions on the subscriber’s mind. Thank you.
And by the way, I hope that the Globe Duo number assigned can also be changed when requested, like a regular mobile number. People sometimes need a change their numbers because so some unwanted calls. I have inquired with the customer service and this is not possible. Thanks.
Cmon! Meron na ng silang UNYT sa Globe Mobile Phone so which means its PERMANENT na siguro ito. Kasi unlike sa UNLICALLS NIGHT ng SMART a.k.a. co-PLDT company you need to use SPECIAL ACCESS Number para makatawag at take note limit pa ng 5minutes after you succeed the allotment time mapuputol at another attempt CALL na naman. But, sa UNYT ng Globe wala ng special number at dirediretso ang tawag. So means PERMANENT na yan GLOBE Duo. Mageexpand pa yan. PLDT? Madupang yan company na yan. Tingnan mo na lang ang PLDT Landline Plus akala ko UNLIMITED may charge pala kahit LOCAL Calls na P1 tapos kahit ganun pa man kahit LOCAL CALLS charge ka pa din ng NDD Charge. Ang tindi ng PLDT!
@Tiger, it will be a permanent number. the promo period was meant for the subscription and the MSF.
Yuga, Tiger was asking if the service is permanent. I understand his concern. It’s hard to subscribe to a service and your business relies on it, only to find out after a few years, the service will be discontinued.
I am not saying this will be the fate of this service. I hope not
because it is indeed a very good product. But product is just one side of the story, Globe has a long reputation for having a sucky customer service.
@john, yeah, I thought I answered it. Globe says it will be a permanent service. They said they had a lot of inquiries from companies wanting to use this service and ditch their secondary mobile line.
Unfortunately this service is NOT provided to all Enterprise/corporate lines. This is one big cost saving for my company in case it will open up for corporate lines.

Thanks for the answers. I do also hope that Globe would make their Postpaid Plans more affordable like Smart’s Lite Plan P300. If Globe does not match Smart’s P300 plan, Smart will overtake Globe one day as the “Leader in Postpaid”. In Business, its all about price matching to protect market share. With Globe Duo and a lower Globe postpaid plan, it would certainly be a perfect package for a certain nitch market looking for affordable plans. A friend of mine said that Smart’s P300 is “selling like hotcakes”, increasing Smart’s Postpaid subscriber base.

@ Tiger : taga Smart or PLDT ka yata e … hahaha just appreciate or not appreciate…I think Yuga is just posting and detailing the service offer of Globe…not saying PLDT or Smart is bad…so no need to build or prop up Smart or PLDT
@tiger – the average monthly spending of a pre-paid subscriber is Php206 while postpaid subscriber is Php1,490. That means a Php300 monthly spend is more for the prepaid rather than postpaid market. Putting it another way, if a subscriber only wants to spend Php300 for a post-paid account, he’s better off as a prepaid subscriber.
I’m a DUO subscriber. No regrets here! I’m not satisfied with PLDT’s LL+.
8 years with Globe surely is a reward. Sana magkaroon rin sa prepaid, hehe.
