Smart Telecoms will commercially roll out their Smart 3G services this May 1.
Here are the listed 3G connection rates as reported by Inq7.net:
- Real-time TV streaming : Php15 per 30 minutes (this is just access charge)
- Content Subscription : Php20/day per network (GMA and ABS-CBN) on top of access charge above
- Audio and Video streaming : Php5/hit
- MMS rates : Php1/message within network and Php2/message to other networks
- Web surfing : Php20/hour
- Game Downloads : Php50/download
- Music : Php50/track (wow, iTunes price!) I suppose in mp3 format
(* streaming movie trailers, live traffic and summer hotspots cameras and music videos will remain free of charge.)

Sure that’s cool when you’re browsing sites … but how about when you wanna go online on yahoo or yehba or the other instant messaging networks …. I’ll be paying 480 BUCKS A DAY!!!!

Operators in other countries are rolling out their own IM solutions, perhaps our local telcos will adopt them. Or Yahoo, etc. could have a commercial agreement.
Web 2.0, Mobile 2.0 and all these other mobile lifesyle movements emphasize on one thing … UBIQUITY.

The platform may it be cellphones, smartphones, pocketPCs, Palm, PDAs, desktops or laptops will be blurred. The applications that we will be using in the future will transcend all these platforms.
What SMART did is that it just closed off this option to the developers to provide such an environment.
Being able to be online 24/7 and only paying for the data you use is far better that this time-metered system that this telco has imposed on it’s subscribers.
Sure, browsing the web on your cellphone is now cheaper (assuming that the sites you go to has graphics) … but what they did is short sighted.
If they really wanted to make browsing more realistic for their subscribers they should just offer unlimited monthly rates like all the other telcos around the world are doing and not use this old dail-up billing strategy of charging by the minute.
250,000 3G handsets in the country is quite possible.
But the question is … how many of the 250,000 units has actually been sold.

u cant price web browsing per monthly since most areprepaid subscribers in our country! at least video call is still free and the network coverage is superb and better than that of globe!!

actually, you can … Smart, Globe and Sun already does it with their unlimited txt schemes …
just txt GPRSBUFFET50, GPRSBUFFET100, GPRSBUFFET300 for 2 days, 1 week or 1 month unlimited GPRS respectively … if any of the telco does this, they will get the majority of the early adopters, developers and power users to switch to their service immediately!!! I know a lot of them …

pero ok narin, kahit nasa school ako nakakainternet ako ng libre pag dala ko laptop ko hehe,
pano ung mag stream ng video sa abs cbn o gma?
