Smart Communications thought their Smart Wifi brand is knee deep in the mud right now that the best thing to remedy the bad publicity is to re-name it. So, they came up with Smart Bro (is that a shortcut for broadband?)
They did some clean-up and even remove pages from their official site which mentioned Smart Wifi. Too bad that page is already #1 on Google, Yahoo and MSN for the term “smart wifi”. (I suppose my blog will take over that spot, eh?)
Migs pointed out that that Smart Bro is also a browser and a few days after the switch, Smart’s pages are already in the front page for the keyword. (I’m hoping this page will be somewhere near in the next couple of days.)
PLDT’s myDSL-w has also been consolidated under this single brand name. Subscribers comment that there’s really nothing new in terms of service improvements — just pure PR and bundling of services.
A commenter at Smart Wifi Chronicles adds:
Kaya lang nagpalit ng pangalan ang Smart Wifi To Smart BRO para maitago yung negative feedbacks ng Smart WiFi na masesearch sa Google. Kung Smart BRO nga naman ang search mo, wala pang negative feed back kasi sariwa pa.

I was thinking of using the smart service , but what Ive heard from my friend its very unreliable. I thought this was the WiMax or WiBro (Korean standard) standard but then its just a wireless lan using their cell sites..

@jun no need, just read different forums like pinoydsl, tipidpc, and pinoypc, mostly people will reccommend globe as the top notch dsl service here in manila followed by bayantel/skydsl then pldt wired dsl and lastly smart wifi (i can’t call it smart bro, it sounds like a rap, street or whatever you call it term, which they are not)
now the big problem that smart will be facing for me is if they can keep they promises, especially network speed and customer relation services, 70% of the subscribers are still wondering and waiting when will it be and for me its quite too late for 40% of those 70% of those dissatisfied customer kasi yung 40% na yan usually has 5 or less months na lang natitira sa lock in period and that includes me.
HUH! nagsisimula nanaman sila…. eto nga at umpisa palang may problema na kagad sa connection. Langya naman! sana naman mag padala kayo ng mga nag iinstall na marunong sa computer at hindi yung mga napupulot lang sa tabi tabi.

nagpunta ako sa sm marilao smart wireless center para mag-apply ng smart wifi, sobrang mahal kasi ng digitel dsl dito, at ayaw ko na kasing mag-aksaya ng pera sa digitel dahil pangit din ang serbisyo nila sa telepono. anyways, ang sabi sa akin ay 1 week bago ako makabitan dahil sa dami ng mga bagong subscriber na naunang nag-apply sa akin. fine, naintindihan ko iyon. ang kaso, hindi ako pwede doon sa pinatakang araw ng supposed 1 week installation period. so sinabi ko na sabado sila pumunta between 8-11 am, thursday kasi ang supposed installation date ko, at nangyari itong pag-uusap namin ng isang smart rep 1 week and 2 days before. nabigyan ako ng assurance na makakabitan ako ng smart wifi sa date na sinabi ko. ang kaso, biglang nag-text sa akin ang mga magkakabit 1 day before noong napagkasunduan naming araw noong smart rep at sinabing hindi masusunod ang oras na sinabi ko. so sabi ko na nagbitiw ng salita ‘yung smart rep na kausap ko na makakabitan ako sa araw at oras na sinabi ko, considering 2 araw na sobra na iyon doon sa maximum period of installation. the reason kung bakit ko pinili ang araw at oras na iyon ay dahil may pasok ako sa supposed installation date ko at available lang ako ng araw at oras na binigay ko dahil may pasok din ako ng sabado ng hapon. gumawa ngayon ng palusot ‘yung installer na kesyo may nauna raw sa akin sa araw na iyon at hindi nila matitiyak kung masusunod ‘yung sinabing oras sa akin. fine, alam ko kung gaano ka-asshole mag-install ng isang sistema dahil ginagawa ko rin iyon. ang punto, hindi dapat sila nagbitiw ng salita at pinaasa ang customer kung hndi rin lang masusunod. ang nangyari? hindi ako pumasok ng sabado ng hapon dahil dumating sila ng past 11 na. dito pa lang, makikita natin na walang silbi na magbilin ka sa mga hinayupak na “smart” people na iyan, wala silang communication sa mga staff nila.

i have not experienced any of your complaints. 95% ang uptime ko except nung pinalitan nila ng Motorola Canopy ang SendFar antenna ko. 1 week lang ang problem pero naayos naman agad. My account is Meridian, hindi pa under ng SmartWifi. I only pay 750 a month - yun ang plan ko. Kinabitan ako February 1, 2005. They gave me free months (April to September 2005) since me mga problem pa sa ibang mga subscribers. I live in BF Almanza, las Piñas. Dumarami na rin ang SmartWifi/SmartBro subscribers dito. I recommended the service to my friend who lives in Dasmarinas, ok naman ang connection niya. Walang problem.
Gusto ko lang matapos na ang lock-in period ko sa Smart para matigil na rin ang pangit na serbisyo nila sa akin.
Meron akong sinabihan na kaibigan dati na maganda ang Smart. Matagal na rin kaming magkaibigan pero matapos syang magpakabit ng Smart Bro, naging magkaaway na kami dahil niloko ko raw sya.

Smart Fanboy doesn’t know what he is saying. Have you ever worked hard honestly in your life only to have your money wasted on service poorly given; and they tie your hands with a 12 month lock in period when you can obviously go to better providers. I had to learn the hard way. I used to love Smart but now because of Smart Bro, even if I don’t personally like Globe, I will make it a point to convince people about Smart’s lack of public concern. Even if Meridian may only be a part of Smart, SMart is in a position where it can actually help small time subscribers like me. And yes, if Smart Bro doesn’t improve its service I will change even my cell network to globe and tell the rest of my family members and community members and colleagues at work not to even think about Smart. At least I can do that part, unlike Smart Bro agents who tell me they will have leverl 2 technical support call me up and then they do nothing for days.

I say it’s about time we do something to get value for our money. Already if my Smart Bro connection isn’t up by tomorrow (I didn’t have internet connection in the last 4 days), I’m filing a formal complaint with the DTI head in our region. If you’re suffering from Smart-related headaches, I suggest you do the same. At the very least, I’m hoping to get out of the lock in period so I can switch to another provider.

Well i’d like to address my concerned… me family and I transferred to a new house… then syempre my kid and i cant live without DSL we play online games alot…
Smart WiFi was installed quick as 123 that was April b4 holy week… 1 (one) day lang namin nagamit after a day na na connect disconnected na.. take note.. entire holy week wala kaming connection.. we call *1888 the entire holy week para ma restore ang connection… but nothing happen… service man nila dumating after 2weeks of calling well after reconnection then after 1 day disconnected na naman!! until right now my kid suffering intermitent connection ng SMARTbro….
i still preffered this wire DSL we use in quezon city…

first of all… ok lng nmn ang gamit ng internet namin… kontento na ako d2 kaysa sa dial up.. pero mukhang problematic ang connections eh.. merong mga times off ang internet, o kya maxado mahina… dba kapag nag download ako ng regular connections ng wi-fi ay ang speed ay mga 30kb/sec.. e minsan baket 1kb/sec na lng??? page cant be displayed pa!! meron ba d2ng mkapag explain sa mga nangyayari??

first of all i have been a customer of smart wifi until it became smart bro. i haven’t yet completed the 1 year contract but if the day arrives, snip snip! In terms of speed smart wifi can deliver but the problem is the thoroughput. For one hour it’s lets say 300~ kbps, the next hour (usually peak hours) it turns to around maybe 100 or less in my area (i’m in qc by the way). The main problem is the freaking disconnection. At times in the morning it disconnects! This is the unreliability portion. AGAIN AS MOST PEOPLE WOULD SAY THIS KIND OF CONNECTION IS NOT MEANT FOR ONLINE GAMES, AND SKYPE. Disconnects and slow downs are a regular part of the service which pisses me off.

This Smart WiFi thing is the biggest scam that this company is trying to get away with. After several months of having a disappointed service from them (that is, getting an average of 35KBPS. Most of the time, no connection and their tech support is useless). So I decided to discontinue paying. Now they are threatening me of a law suit. They think they can scare me of this. I will fight for my rights until the end. I’m not just going to sit down and have them steal my hard-earned money. If we, the subscribers who decided to discontinue paying because of the poor service, can just unite and fight. I believe, we can win this war.

may nagsabi sa akin taga pldt/smart. nung una maganda service nila kasi daw yung alloted na subscribers sa isang E1 (E-wan siguro) yun lang kinakabit. pero ngayon umaabot ng 4X ang dami ng subscribers na nakakabit sa isang E1. kaya yung alloted na speed sayo may kashare ka. ganun din sa pldt lalo na sa province nakashare yung speed mo. pero pag may kilala ka sa loob solo mo yung koneksyon mo. kaya sana naman tignan ng NTC kung kaya ng system ng ISP na iaccommodate yung subscribers nila para walang maloloko.

kala ko ba 256kbps, e nag download ako ung transfer rate mga 3 kbps lng… naman! parang dial up lang eh! tapos sabi pa ninyo 7x faster than dial up connections! ayusin nyo nga yan!

Smart wi-fi sucks. During the first few months sevice was great.
But i guess their agressive marketing strategy worked. now they have more customers than they can accomodate in our area. Now we get disconnected every 5 minutes during peak hours.
I was wondering if there are customers here that were able to cancel their subsciption?

Hi! for the past years eh naka-dial up lang ako through PLDT Vibe. and recently nga nagsubscribe sa unlimited ng pldt vibe. needless to say eh di ako satisfied dahil sa hirap ng connection. okay na sana na mabagal kasi dial-up nga, kaya lang di rin ako maka-connect. laging “The number you dialled is not yet in service” paano naman yun db? anyway, nag-apply ako for smart bro last friday and i’m waiting na ma-install yun this week. medyo natakot ata ako sa mga comments nyo sa taas…
im only hoping na maging maayos at minimal ang problems na ma-encounter ko…
though some people said na okay naman yung service. do you think it has anything to do with the proximity of your antenna to a smart cell site? so parang less ang interference.

amp tlaga.. gumamit n ko ng download accelarator, bgal parin mag download ng files, ung iba ayaw tlaga kahit ok ung site n pinagkkunan ng file.. sna wifi post kau sa web nyo kung meron kaung technical difficulties..
bakit parang mas mabilis ata ngayon ang vibe ko kesa sa smart bro?

Hay naku!!! palpak rin experience ko with SMARTBRO. Disconnection and slow download speed.
Got no connection for 3 days and the techsupport kept on telling me to release, renew, ping, etc….putsa nakabisado ko na yung mga ipaddress na pinapaping and the script they use!!
On the third day, sabi sa ko sa customer service, wag ka magpaparelease, renew, at ping, I want to know kung kailan pupunta or tatawagan ako ng higher tech team nyo kundi tatamaan ka. They can’t even call me or give numbers for someone who can answer me directly.
Anyone na may experience sa with downloading torrents? parating yellow yung icon sa ibaba, meron daw firewall na naglilimit sa connection and the port could not be opened kainis….7x download speed daw e pinakamabilis ko 11Kbps lang most of the time 0Kbps pa (aggregate pa yun!!).
So Smart Fanboy shut up, maybe you’re using other connections other than SMARTBRO that’s why you’re happy….and try explaining it to my 10 year old son why you’re happy with SMART and he’s NOT.

mas mabuti cguro huwag na lang kayo gagamit ng downloader kc depende po ito sa resources na nagbigay sa download… kung mahina ang download niyo pa check niyo ang pc niyo kung 3 gigz processor 1gigz ram 80 hd,, para mas mabilis ang download niyo try niyo kung pareho pa rin,, tawag kayo sa hotline… mag usap ng mabuti para mapuntahn kayo ng mga installer……..ok
para kay migssss!!! tawag ka pcheck u yung CPE u, para masolved yang problema u,,,, na try u na ba palitan ang lancard u baka sira na yan… sigurado ka ba sa OS ng PC u… Ok b yan Reg ba yan…. baka Coruupted na yan… kaya bago magingay dyan check u muna kung ok ang PC u!!!!! ok Rply k D2 para malaman u…ZAMBOANGA CITY INSTALLER
para kay mark12…. indi u ba alam na ang 100mbps ay sa lancard yun,,, alam u ba yung LAN CARD!!!???? alam u ba kung ano ang dinadownload u? alam u ba kung ilang resources ang nagbibigay…depende po sa resources kung marami ang nagbibigay ng resources mataas ang downloading u kung isa lang 3,4,5 kbps lang….check u muna ang resources bago ka magdownload ok
d2 po sa zamboanga city marami ang nagrereklamo sa wifi….muslim, visaya, tagalog, chavacano, foreigner…….. meron matapang meron naman ok ang client…..advice namin kung may problema man kayo sa connection niyo tawag kayo sa hotline para puwede natin macheck o maayos ang connection niyo…sana po maintindihan niyo…twag kayo para masolved natin ang mga problema plsssss……..
I’ve connected up to SMART Bro just dz week & my connection is Fine. Download Speeds for P2P is great…Esp on non-peek hours. On peak hours it rudeces just about 80%, but still okei. My internet explorer or any browser for that matter would download a file at just about 10-20kbps. So i use Flasget Accelerator & get ranges up to 50kbps. Again depending on peak & non peak times.
For me here, the connection is ok. Sorry for u guys who dont feel / have the same experience.
Oh, the only problem is in TORRENT downloading. Ive heard that SMART BRO is using WAN(Wide ARea Network) [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAN ] and it works like LAN but its from SMART to us customers. So all the ports esp for use in Torrent sharing can only be forwarded by them, through them. And we just get speeds of 0-10kbps. S*cks.
But if the torrent is from a source just like us, SMART subscribers… We cud download it faster…
Oh…& SMART BRO is not suited for gaming… another badtrip!!! It always disconnects. Cant play anymore…
mga guys,ala eh dine sa Batangas ganun din…Smart Wifi..then lipat smart Bro ba kamo….alam nyo ba na Nagpakabit din ako dine…naku ang pangit nang service 2 months walang connection tapos intermittent pa cnnection…..
Pina disconnect ko na sana /…kaso kelangan daw after one year pa..so pinaconnect ko ulit.(as smartbro na daw)pero ayusin nila …..pinalitan nila nang bagong antenna (canopy) dahil obsolete n araw yung antenna dati,,ano ba yan,,bakit obsolete ang kinakabit nila..pati serbisyo obsolete.
Sa ngayon OK naman two weeks na ang connection….nang smart BRO ..pero mabagal pa rin ..di ma reach yung 384kbps….ok lang ito basta wag lang intermittent ang connection.Kung intermittent pa rin ang connection at pawawalala …anytime pwede kung pa disconnect yung service nila without any obligation….karapatan natin ehto…Pinagbabayad ako nang bill 2 months wlang connection,,,swerte sila…pina wave ko…tsktsk..baka makalusot…..
ehto sa ngayon gamit ko smartbro…..OK “PA” ang connection………………………………..last bandwidth test……..162kbps
aba nun one time 5 days ako wala connection..daily ako tumatawag sa customer care..un at un dinang pinapagawa…kainis dun sa 5th day.nagpadala n sila ng tech team binago un canopy may sira daw…sinisisi pa un laptop ko kesho sira daw…elow pepol bago to (in ur face)… pwede b nex tym kung hardware nyu ang sira actionana nyu n kagad hndi yan pinapaabot nyu p ng 5days…luge ako e bayad tapos bulok tech support
Anybody here knows how i can access the canopy portal? yung pinag-setup-an na page nung in-install yung smartbro. i need some info kaya lang wala na sa history ng browser yung IP add eh.

btw, medyo gusto ko naman ang service ng smartbro. im not sure if its because katapat namin ang cell site ng smart o kung wala mang koneksyun yun. may time na super bagal pero di naman umaabot sa paputol-putol ng connection. tsaka most of the time eh nasa 150 kbps and above.
to installer from zamboanga.. ganun ba? ok gets ko na ung lan card at ‘resources’, pero ganun parin eh… mabagal parin.. putol2x ang connection.. may time na sobrang mabagal… paano ba yan masolvED?
Hmmm, you got me thinking about all these posts about SmartBRO…I have mine installed just a week ago (July 23) and so far it has been ok. I have no problems (at the moment) since the installation except it was delayed for one day because of some userid errors on the part of the head-office. My bandwidth is approx. 330Kbps and I’m fine with it. But I will try to monitor it from now on since all of the posts here are quite disturbing. My current job requires me to be online everyday here at home so I need watch for these potential problems mentioned here. Anyway, thanks for all the people voicing out their problems. I really do hope that they improve their services as needed. By the way, my SmartBRO is in Bulacan.
mga pepz i have 10 units of computers here sa mindoro sharing in 1 single line of smartbro …. sabay sabay onlinegaming…pag minsan webcam pa…sabayan mo pa ng downloading or uploading …grabe pare walang log pre….5 months na connection ko, 1day whole day lang cia nwalan ng connection, wish ko lang parepareho tau ng speed connection…
