There’s a new player and town and it looks like it’s making a splash by dropping a wad of cash in advertising. People have been asking me about this new classified ad site called Ayos Dito.
Who can’t ignore them? They’re spending a lot on Google Adwords, signing up with local blog ad networks and sponsoring tech-related events left and right.
In an already-crowded market dominated by eBay.ph and Sulit, does AyosDito have what it takes to cut a significant piece of the classifieds arena?
While there’s still room for more, Ayos Dito seems like it’s doing the Manila Craigslist style and couples it with a huge marketing budget. We saw the same thing with Auction.PH before.
Here’s my checklist:
- SEO-optimized site? Check.
- PPC and display advertising campaigns? Check.
- Content creation campaign? Check.
- Community building and user retention? Un-checked.
- Link building campaign? Un-checked.
- Brand recognition? Coming soon(?).
There was an article that states Ayos Dito was getting somewhere in the north of 15,000 visitors per day. Since I don’t see their site in the SERPs, I’ll assume 90% of that traffic comes from PCC and display ads. A conservative cost of Php5 per visitor brings a daily spending of over Php50,000. Now, that’s a lot of money. They need to be visible in the SERPs fast or that ad budget could dry up real soon.
What do you think — can Ayos Dito make it?

How do they earn money again?
These guys are definitely using Google AdWords A LOT. Initially, they only used text ads but now they have leaderboard banners and 300 x 250 ones!
Haven’t really checked them out as of yet.

not really sure but they do get a lot of coverage on ads from pinoy blogs all around.
All things considered, if AyosDito does make a mark, competition is good for everyone (the user base specifically).

Well AyosDito is much much user-friendly than Sulit.
They are competing with keywords [product] Philippines, right? They’re up against ebay and sulit? I’d be very interested on how they’ll make it.
I cant seem to find the user ratings/comments/feedbacks. Is there such feature in ayosdito like user ratings/comments/feedbacks?

How the site earns money is really puzzling. They don’t have on-site advertising, buyers are not required to register, heck even sellers don’t need to register and pay for inserting an ad of their own.
Plus I’ve heard of a story that some of sellers there are scam ads.
honestly, this is the first time I heard of AyosDito. Seems to me that most people think they are going down!

their website is user friendly and i like their system, i think they will survive. at least for now.

They may be trying to achieve a strong user base before starting to offer premium advertising. Yes they may be userfriendly while Sulit is cluttered but powerful. The question is do they innovate, do they have what sulit doesnt have? A few more of these and we can start up a classifieds aggregator, list your classifieds on one site and it puts them on all and you can view comments and offers on all of them all in one location instead of having to visit 5-10 sites.
@LX, I do agree with you. Sulit.ph already has an established user base and it’s tremendously hard for some out-of-the-blue company to stifle or even tickle Sulit.ph’s loyalists. But if the site should offer easier guidelines and an appealing interface (unlike Sulit.ph’s), they might have a shot at earning a cult impression.

I don’t like the design of their site. Its not user friendly. I think if they improve that they can beat Sulit. I also dont like sulit sobra magulo puro ads. No one really can match craigslist
It’s an interesting concept, trying to worm their way into an already very thin market with a ot of pasy per clcik. Not that I mind them blanketing my blog withtheir banners, but this is the first time I have even seen them mentioned, editorially. Since Filipinos in general, those not in the techno-sophisticated crown, have yet to do that much in the online auction market at all, I question what grabbing marketsahre of such a currently small market is.
Now the market could become very profiyable .. certain sulit is an easy target, becuase sulit is nearly impossible to _find_ anything on .. but I certainly would market differently. Write ups on sites like Yuga’s and a few of the other top Pinoy blogs would do a lot more for market awareness I think ..and if they cold get Mar or Kristina to shop for something for the wedding online … ah then they would have it made
ayosdito seems ok, but i don’t see any user rating or feedback, this will be a pain to trust sellers. unlike other sites such as tpc.
sulit is just bombarded with ads and their site is not user friendly.

well I tried posting an ad for web services on their site and placed a linked to my portfolio as reference and the ad got rejected. it seems they’re a bit strict when it comes to posting.
I’m guessing this will be a paid service in the future if they don’t put up ads on their site.
AyosDito can break in a little.. but they can never match Sulit.com.ph, auction.ph or even tipidpc.com anytime soon. These websites have already established loyal users plus a heavy imprint on pinoy internet users and marketers. It will TAKE A LOT OF TIME for AyosDito to be in the “mainstream”.. but slowly but surely, if they do everything right and be patient, it will definitely payoff..
Seems like they have a huge budget for advertising. The site’s user interface is actually good and the elements in the site are not cluttered with ads, links, promotions and what-nots. As Abe included in his checklist, they should build a loyal user community… with this competition will be irrelevant and brand recognition will surely follow.
Ayos Dito is everywhere. Ive noticed their ad on my car finder site and so I have to remove and treat them as a competing site.
The competition is tough with regards to classifieds sites because you are not only competing with the national based sites but also with local provincial sites (of which I own one).
Not only that, community forum/discussion boards are also featuring classifieds ads thread/sections. Istorya.net, a cebu based forum of which I co-founded, is now even offering premium membership. It would be a hard task for Ayos Dito to capture a sizable market with the prevailing competition.

I didn’t take notice that the site I’m visiting for a laptop is Ayos Dito. I thought that AD was just a scam and up for jokes until I saw many advertisers with their items. Will check them out further.

Free ads offer by di-AyosDito.ph should loose some of their rules. Revisit on their rule won’t hurt. =p
Coming from the Advertising/Marketing industry, I always say that no amount of advertising can save a bad or underdeveloped product/service — Because advertising can only get you so far and there are some things in this world that money can’t buy.
I highly doubt AyosDito.ph followed the most basic rule in Marketing, which is to develop a product or service well first before attempting to spend money on advertising it. I’ve been visiting the site for quite sometime now (even before their Adwords brigade) and saw no significant improvement in the service they are offering; Items are not categorized well, location search is not optimized, there are no clear registration procedures etc.
For the most part, I believe impatience got the best of AyosDito (as all established institutions, online or not, are destined to be eclipsed by something better sooner or later anyway). I felt that they wanted to take the quick route to high traffic and user-retention and totally forgot that nothing beats good service and good content in making people interested in any online service.
Advertising is an amazing marketing tool — but only when used at the right place, at the right time. At this point, however, I don’t think AyosDito is wielding it properly.
I’ve been watching ayosdito and seems its a serious player. If you would look into their customer service page, you would see that this group is every where and pretty much localized than other big sites like ebay etc.
I like the way ayosdito is structured, hassle free ad posting and ads surfing. I have tried posting an ad as well and guys believe me they are strict which only shows that they are carefully watching scammers and the way they reply is they are helping the advertisers to hit the pages for SEO purposes.
Pitting it against sulit as most of you have put it, well sulit may have the traffic now but i guess sulit just found its successor.
Sulit does not have FOCUS! Ayosdito knows their business well and way so professionally managed as well. Craiglist way! very pricise and concise.
Some would say forum as an advantage blah blah blah. but hey look, this is classifieds not a social site. So if sulit is capitalizing on the so called community it has well they are cheating the traffic. But again traffic is traffic in the internet. But the premise would go back on what do you really want to do? social network or classifieds? Which gets me to other people’s comment that sulit is too cluttered. Its trying to do too many things at the same time. FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS.
I agree with the rest that ayosdito is a big spender and saw in alexa that they are silently climbing the ranking in the Philippines. one have said that they cant beat tipidpc.com … look again they just did.
For me no business will spend this much for nothing and with the kind of other sites they have elsewhere I know they mean what they’re doing.
Keep it up AyosDito! lets see what else can you do ….
For me, as long as I’m not paying for anything, it’s good. Heck, I just let the guys from ayosdito.ph do the spending while I enjoy their traffic for free. I believe this is good for both buyers and sellers.

Yes I encountered this site when I was looking for an equivalent craigslist of Philippines, It’ nice site… They signup for google adwords, maybe that is where they get their visitors. But I heard that they are gaining popularity…they were even featured in the Net25 Convergence show.

Another local clssified ads site worth looking at is http://www.classifiedsph.com, they seem to be getting 4000-5000 visitors a day based on their stats, and if I remember correctly this is now considerably higher than a year or two back.
Free to post ads, and their biz model seems to be adsense…
The interface is fairly easy to use, registration is required in order to post unlike ayosdito. I see scam-type ads being posted there from time to time, but these seem to get culled pretty quickly, and the vast majority of ads that do get left over seem to be legitimate ones.
does posting for an ad in ayosdito.com really FREE??? i received a confirmation email from them stating that once i confirmed, a receipt will be sent to me and they do not refund???

They’re rich and 50k/day (as you estimated) was nothing for them.
Sulit is hard to beat, but we’ll never know. AyosDito is iphone friendly and was optimized to be viewed in mobile phones. ^__^ That’s their main advantage compared to sulit. Hehe

I won an hp mini note from their site. The model posted was b-2140 but when i got the netbook, it was actually a 1109, grr. I was very disappointed. Anyway, i have a mini laptop now and its free.

@randy, I’ve seen some sponsored posts on a number of local blogs. It was obvious because they all read almost the same.
It is a hassle to place ads on Ayosdito.

Hi Paolo, As I have mentioned in this thread, AyosDito.ph has its own internal measure to prevent scam. I have personally tried posting an ad in ayosdito.ph and I can tell you that they are quite strict and gets in to the details of each and every ad post they receive.
Well as it is, it is still a a buy&sell deal so they can only do so much in terms of screening to the as post. The rest is still up to you how you take care of your money and get the deal straight forward.
To be safe I suggest do a meet-up and make a real face-to-face transaction which I believe is safe for for you as a buyer and the seller.
I have seen this site all over the place. I think they spent a lot on PPC adwords campaign which I think involves huge amount of money. And come to think, almost all keywords. Sometimes irrelevant keywords on their niche.
Let’s see who’s behind this and hope it would work out well for them.

Mudah and AyosDito are owned by the same company. I’ve heard of a lot of people blocking AyosDito on their AdSense filter so I guess it’s okay if you do it too.
How about http://www.keepern.com, anyone knows about this site? Based on their whois profile, this is also a Philippine Classified Ad site.
I registered an account with Keepern.com and the features are similar to Sulit, particularly the unique url per member, HTML ad body where you can embed images, videos etc.
Why AyosDito cant do that?
