Pizza.com sold for $2.6 Million

Having owned the domain name Pizza.com since 1994, Chris Clark finally sold it in an auction and ended up with $2.6 Million. Generic domains still raking in tons of money.

His decision to sell was prompted after learning that Vodka.com was sold earlier for $3 Million.

Don’t bother going to dotPH, the domains pizza.ph and pizza.com.ph are already taken/waitlisted.

I’ve been privy to a few other Filipinos making a killing off of selling domains. Some made a few thousand pesos while others came close to a million pesos.

Domain speculators are also hot on tracks as .ASIA domains came out to the public.

A poll we had here last February revealed people are stacking on domain names with record highs of up to a few thousands.

Anyone here sold had a domain already?

With this, I’m thinking of getting into the domain name business. I guess, its time to look for virgin names.

I bought Bahasa.asia, Indonesian national language. Will develop this and learn Bahasa in the process.

I choose Bahasa since it has more searches than any Filipino languages.

Animo, with that price, your domain should be popular one word dictionary names. And the “at” is killing the value. Even with just “Buyandsell.com” should just be below 100$k.

six php figures is ok for a generic .ph though if you want to hold on to it, hold on to it.

I don’t get this domain speculation. Is the intertubes going to be regulated or what? Having a good domain name doesn’t mean crap.

Its all about branding and type in traffic. A good domain name can be a store front you cant buy anywhere else for any amount.

I want to sell my name Kalovski Itim. I do not know if someone is interested before this name takes the headlines later.

andre, these are generic names tht mean nothing in the real world. And how can it be about traffic. Know any generic domain name that is number one in google for its own keyword?

The generic domains mean everything, they’re a limited resource, you think people are paying millions of dollars for nothing, they are not speculating. A good name will make or break and business.

As to domaining / domaineering, you’re on the right track with geographic domains as any popular tourist area like Orlando.us, Las-Vegas.us or NiagaraFallsOntario.org should do well. .Ph ought to work well for cities located in that country. Domaineering is the business of acquiring and monetizing Internet domain names for their use primarily as an advertising medium rather than as an investment for resale as in domaining. In essence, the domain names function as virtual Internet billboards with generic domain names being highly valued for their revenue generating potential derived from attracting Internet traffic hits. As with traditional advertising, domaineering is part art and part science. Often to be the most effective as advertising tools, the domain names and their corresponding landing pages must be engineered or optimized to produce maximum revenue which may require considerable skill and knowledge of search engine optimization ( SEO ) practices, marketing psychology as well as an understanding of the target market audience. Domaineering generally utilizes a firm offering domain parking services to provide the sponsored “feed” of a word or phrase searched for. Occasionally content is added to develop a functional mini-website. Domaineers and some of those who advertise online using keywords believe domaineering provides a useful, legal and legitimate Internet marketing service. Domaineering is practiced by both large companies who may own hundreds or even thousands of domains to individual entrepreneurial minded domaineers who may only own one or a few.
