The music industry is to extend its copyright war by taking legal action against websites offering unlicensed song scores and lyrics. The Music Publishers’ Association (MPA), which represents US sheet music companies, will launch its first campaign against such sites in 2006. (from BBC News)
Isn’t that a bit of a stretch already? What’s wrong with republishing song lyrcis? Music fans love to do that. Bloggers love to quote lyrics from their favorite bands or artists. There’s just no stopping this copyrights war, or so it seems.
*pffft*

Sexually prostrated lang ang mga yon. hehehehe.
Ewan ko sa kanila. Hehehe.
Basta attribution lang palagi, to keep trouble at bay.
Every music company should run its own lyrics site and deliver it to end users through RSS. People resort to visiting third party lyrics sites because its the best resource they could find. geez.. often people examine the lyrics of certain songs first before hopping to their favourite record bar.
Lyrics sites should condemn this by encouraging people to get a Napster account or use P2P client.
shhezz…they can’t even control music piracy…what more with the lyrics..
Posting someone else’s song lyrics without his/her permission is just as wrong as posting someone else’s blog entry, fiction, article, etc. without permission. Perhaps a crackdown on illegally posted song lyrics won’t accomplish much, but it doesn’t make these actions (the posting, not the cracking-down) less illegal.
i told ya it’s illegal.
Since 2004, I’ve been running a site with guitar chords and lyrics page. I have been reading about the previous crackdown of MPA. However, in what I’ve read some countries do not mind such action because they are not govern by any laws on that grounds. Is Philippines one of them? Any lawyer around or somebody with deep understanding of our laws?
Thanks.
