My advise — send them a bill. Best way to teach violators a lesson is by punching a hole in their pockets.
Next question is — how much are the standard rates for each photo when used in print?

hehe no need to guess. the email on the newspaper is a giveaway. that’s some serious copyright violation, especially when the plate number on the kalesa was erased.

I hate it when people don’t respond. I have experienced this countless of times specially when I use the Contact Us page on websites. From banks to telcos to other major businesses. Better get a face to face meeting.
Oh? Will sending them a bill be effective? Cause I should probably be sending bills as well to a magazine, two television stations, and a newspaper.

I’m surprised at MB. Ajay works there right? Why is she even part of this publication when it obviously disregards the intellectual property rights of people especially bloggers? Shame.

when you delay you give them power, I mean. But compensate by escalating. Class action will be more effective but individual suits more lucrative.

Legal suits are expensive. But try billing. A leading newspaper said they would pay me 400 to 600 pesos for my amateur photo. haha. So I am not sure what their rates are for pros.
Try billing them and If they disagree.. I think there will be a need for a blogger brigade..

Tsk, tsk. In fairness, it’s not MB alone who’s been caught flatfooted with this. It’s time media outfits assign an officer to check facts and copyright issues. IT’S TIME ALSO THAT PRs and PUBLICISTS STOP SENDING PRESS RELEASES TO NEWSPAPERS THAT WERE TAKEN FROM BLOGS!!! I highly suspected this with Marketmanila’s plagiarized recipe for bulalo.On the other hand, it is easy for responsible editors and their staff to verify titles, keywords and pictures by Googling them. I was a regular of MB for five years and I don’t know this Max Ballesteros .. I am 101% sure he’s not on the regular roster of reporters.

When I saw what paper did this, I was not surprised. They only sell due to their classfied ads, no more no less, many thanks to being government puppies.

I am planning to make my blog to photoblog on May 16, 2006 after my 34 weeks of preparations watch out for that!!!
Since they didn’t even bother to ask for permission, don’t go for the standard rate.
Instead, go to a stock photo site and get the rate for downloading a similarly sized image. Find the lowest rate you can find if you’re feeling generous – that will probably be a dollar or so.
Once you have that rate, multiply it by the claimed circulation of the broadsheet. That’s what you bill them.
That’s the added fee for not asking for permission.

Travel and Tourism is different from the Picture Perfect Section… they operate independently.. my feature has nothing to do with my complaint …
it was during the interview when i raised my copyright concerns.. and i was told at that time that the travel and tourism section was reorganizing…
We have setup http://www.copyright.ph for those people that need to get their story out and need protection from copyright violators that infringe on our basic rights..
