just do some research when I found this blog?! W-E!

you don't have to explain it longer!

Orkut was popular in Brazil/Brazilian Users while
Friendster was popular in Philippines/Filipinos users.

simple as that!!!

Anyways, you just don't have to compare sites as long as you can connected with your friends or should I say long lost friends etc?

Its up to you, if what sites we're best for you!
Just signed up and enjoy exploring the site!

Hay...dumugo ang ilong ko dun ah? hahaha!!! naloka ang ateh muh!!!

Google will never buy Facebook. Google owns a social network site called Orkut. Its very popular in Brazil. But it never gotten anywhere since they bought it. So that concludes Googles social networking experiment. People will only join a social network site where most of their friends are. As for me I rarely login at my Friendster account. I just left a note on the shout out link to where they can find me. Its funny how the shout out in Friendster never resets. In Facebook it resets to blank after a few days.

I have a Myspace, Friendster, and Facebook account. In the states, we use mainly myspace and facebook. NOBODY uses friendster. My question is why everyone in the Philippines has a friendster account but very little have myspace/facebook. In my opinion, myspace does everything friendster does but with more features… and Facebook just tops them all - perfect tool for networking with co-workers, family, friends, classmates, etc. i can’t even begin to tell you how many people i’ve reconnected with because of the fact that we were able to find each other on facebook’s easy search feature. plus, i’m tired of all the customizations (i.e. backgrounds, spam comments, images, etc) on myspace/friendster that take forever to load just to view a page. I had to resurrect my friendster account from like 2001 or 2002 just to connect with my new friends here because they refuse to sign up for facebook haha.

Time and Impression
Examples:
1) YM was there when ICQ started declining. Filipinos will say "stop using ICQ, it's buggy and crashes a lot of times". - Good timing and impression. And to think that ICQ dominated the Philippines for 3 years if I remember correctly. Also the fact that Filipinos do not even know what "IM" or "Instant Messenger" is. They only know "ICQ" and "YM".
1.b) Why not MSN? They came too late. Filipinos even today, use MSN/WLM because their foreign contacts hates YM. Filipinos being good-natured, will do the sacrifice and register an MSN/WLM account.
2) Plurk also made an impression over Twitter. When I asked my friends who I invited to use Twitter, they said it is ugly and chaotic. When Plurk came out, they all jumped in.

So why Friendster and not MySpace or Facebook?
1) Time and Impression. Friendster was there when Online Gaming exploded in the Philippines. Through Friendster, gamers from all-over the Philippines can send messages, connect, design their little "pseudo" sites called Profiles, post bulletins, create their guild/clan "friendster" (another pseudo site if you will), and eventually create (Friendster) groups. Then friendster added blogging, the more reason not to move elsewhere.

2) "Majority of my friends are using Friendster, if more than half of them moves to MySpace, then I will move." Problem is, most of the time, all of their friends share the same mentality.

3) Friendster provided what many Filipinos do not want to study, and Friendster provided what many Filipinos really love - Customizations, Profiles, Bulletin, Networking, and the "pride of having the most friends in the campus". MySpace, Facebook, Everyonesconnected (I dont know if anyone here knows that SNS), Multiply were all just for techies.

That changed already of course. Same thing with ICQ, Friendster started to have problems - VERY SLOW loading times. Funny thing was, MySpace was also having the same problem during this time. Then Multiply was there. Once again, Timing and Impression. People started creating Multiply accounts and were impressed with what Multiply has to offer that Friendster does not (during the migration).

However, Friendster fixed their problems before a good chunk moved to Multiply. Suddenly the community is divided. Some went back to Friendster, some diligently convinced their friends to move to Multiply. MySpace? I think this was the time when MySpace was having reputation attacks (those rape, pedophile news). Also, funny thing, many iCafes here in the Philippines were getting a NON-English version of MySpace, which further discouraged Filipinos from using it, even those who already have MySpace.

Now there's Facebook. Timing and Impression? Yes. Facebook offers what all the other social-networks does not offer.
#1: It is so easy to search for your friends AND relatives.
#2: So many games
#3: So many third-party applications that really captured the Filipinos, I dunno, weaknesses??
#4: Thanks to Plurk, Online Gaming Icons, and the explosion of the Philippine Blogosphere/Bloggers.
#5: Finally, internet literacy.

Funny tho, of the new generation, it's seldom you will encounter someone who knows what "IRC" is. :p Even those who says "mIRC" instead of "IRC" are so very few nowadays.

FYI, facebook first started as a social networking site for those attending a select few universities. In order to sign up, you needed an email account from one of the select few universities.. eventually it expanded to more universities - all the way until they just made it open for everyone.. that explains why its popularity only grew within the past 2 years or so.
