I'm curious with this "Ako Mismo Dog Tag" that people have been talking about. Even my high school friends we're selling real dog tags. Without knowing what it is, I searched the net and it looks like a lot of people are looking forward to have one. Is this a trend to the fashionistas around Philippines? You say it's an organization, then what could their purpose be? I don't care whether actors or actresses are the ones who's advertising this dog tags cause well I certainly am not a fan of local artists. :)
Aside from that, what's with their name as "Ako Mismo" Ako mismo what? If it's a way of saying "Proud to be a Filipino" then a tag won't make any difference if the person itself isn't making any move at all. If it's that EASY to make a difference then I bet buying a million, no, a trillion or a gazillion of these dog tags...would change the world? Lol. No material thing would help us Filipino to change, it's up to us if we'll take action or not. Then, dog tags aren't necessary. I peeked at ako mismo design and one thing popped up in my mind: the design is so simple that anyone who knows more in making a design can make better ones. Much better that can really symbolize all of the Filipinos in making a change. Want to change something? Then, take action and forget those dog tags. Leave it be with those mutts. :P

nice to read all the comments... interesting. a whole lot of speculations...

unfortunately, most are quick to judge and the more negative the "chismis" the more they believe it. sign of the times i guess. i urge everyone to get their facts straight so they can move forward to better things. some speculations are simply outrageous.

now i'm more amazed to see how blogs and forwarded emails (i hope they're happy with the attention they're getting) are now treated as reliable sources when in fact, if you disect their posts/emails and try to imagine they're thinking process just to arrive at whatever, it screams "I'm confused!" "Help me!" "Where are you taking me!" "This must be evil.. its evil.. huwahahahaha.. let me put my fault finding cap on.. this is too good to be true! something or someone evil is behind this.."(*musical score ala silence of the lambs). sad - how naive. well composed but shallow.

Don't get me wrong, there are reliable sources such as this blog - yugatech, kudos to you. that's why i decided to break silence here.

i think ako mismo was suppose to inspire you to be more pro-active... but i can see now that there are still a few of us who would rather be told what to do vs just doing it. think about it... most blogs i've read was hitting the true essence of ako mismo - bulls eye! they knew what it was about. they felt it... but the temptation of adding controversy was oh too sweet to resist.

for me, the silence of ako mismo for 3-4 days (i think) was brilliant. the silence was deafening to the point that you can now hear yourself. i've seen a couple of blogs who found their way (negative or positive) to this realization - ako mismo. congratulations... now you don't need someone or something to dictate to you what YOU can or cannot do.

You should have included Manny Pacquiao. Didn't I see any politician as one of your endorser?

The site is very motivating. It agitates us to do something for our country.

The site surely is earning some bucks every click on it.

It might be an initial strategy before a big bang revelation of who is behind it. Politically-instigated, I guess.

Transparency-wise, it welcomes many critics. But, I hope it won't be closed.

To the "unnamed" commenter, I will have to quote you here:

"This is exactly what I meant about monopolizing their industry. I always discuss with my foreign co-software developers that this is one trait I hate the most about my fellow Filipinos — CRAB MENTALITY."

Could you tell us your definition of crab mentality and monopoly? Because last I check, for the majority, it means not letting someone have what they want because they themselves can't have what those people want. As for monopoly, it simply means of having a great control of an industry. I think those two terms you mentioned are not so related at all. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I'm oh so willing to hear it. It's a bit confusing, you know.

Btw, I've seen your "copy-paste" comment from the link you provided.

Anyway, on to the main concern, *I think* it's not owned by PLDT/SMART, unless the international "DDB Cares" gave in to a bribe, an x-deal or something else. If PLDT/SMART owns it or has total access to the database, so what? It's not as if they'll be able to do something so big to ruin your life. A mobile number, an email address and the city where you are located are harmless compared to having your land line number exposed to strangers. Much more if it's your home address, right?

Think about it, Google and Yahoo has a lot of information about us. Jobstreet or JobsDB do too. Same goes for PLDT, Smart, Globe, etc. for those who are subscribed to them. Oh, and don't forget about those community networks like Facebook, Friendster, Multiply, and the list goes on. Shouldn't we be afraid of them also?

The information might really be used for the 2010 elections if you're looking at it politically, or advertisements, or whatever. But we won't know yet since there are no firm evidences of who really owns the site. It's good to be paranoid once in a while but also try to be an open-minded person. If you guys want answers quickly, then ask the DDB located in Taguig by dropping them a call or ask the KBP (Kapisanan ng Broadcasters ng Pilipinas) about the legitimacy of the movement.

In the end, it's your own choice. If others wants to join let them be. If others doesn't want to register, let them be. Everyone has a choice so don't make others choose what you want for them even if it's for the betterment of their own welfare. Pwede rin na "Ako mismo ang pipili kung ano ang gagawin ko at gusto ko para sa aking sarili at para sa aking bayan."

* I'm not from DDB nor SMART nor PLDT nor am I protecting them. I'm just a normal 20-ish-year-old, freelance web developer, Filipino citizen, trying to voice out my thoughts and opinions. If I am wrong about all these that I've written above, please tell me. :)
