@Bigbird – tried using my iPhone 3G. Looks better because you can zoom in and out easily and is quite faster actually. Problem though is that it not not track the route I took.

I’ve done same exercise last feb. of this year when i went to my home province in Capiz via bus/roro. equipped with BB 8820 (w/ built-in gps) im txting my long/lat to my bro and he’s keeping track of where location (specially while in the phil. sea) using google earth.. it was fun.

BTW these are data intensive applications, so better to switch to unlimited charging rates or time based charging.

@jhay – it’s actually Google Maps. Not that accurate.

@Gloria – used LifeVine on a Nokia N82.

@Dagger – I have an iPhone 3G, haven’t tried it from there though since it drains the battery very fast.

@Jerome – Saw it in CyberZone, Megamall. yeah, I thought it was expensive too. I should look for that Php24k one you mentioned.

@Bigbird – will try the alternatives. This one is using Google Maps.

Don’t need to have extravagant phone just to have GPS on your mobile. You can use other killer apps like Google Mobile Maps and Mobile GMaps. They have a deep level access to SS7 connectivity. And can PIN your location realtime.

40k for an N810? That’s too much. The last one I saw was around 24k at Infomaxx at Megamall and Trinoma. Unless they jacked up the price. I could have gotten one if I had enough reason for it, but alas, I’m quite satisfied with my current gear.

As a Civil Engineer working for the government, I really find useful the applications in my N82. The GPS with sports tracker is a very helpful tool especially in preliminary route surveys and GIS applications. The camera is superb for documentation purposes.
